Fang Island was an American indie rock band formed in Providence, Rhode Island, and based in Brooklyn, New York City. The group consisted of the guitarists Jason Bartell and Chris Georges, the bass guitarist Brock Hengin and the drummer Marc St. Sauveur.

Biography

Fang Island began in 2005 as an art project with original members, Philip Curcuru, Chris Georges and Pete Watts, while attending Rhode Island School of Design. [1] [2] They were later joined by Bartell, St. Sauveur, Jacober and the guitarist Nick Sadler, a former member of the band Daughters. [3] Fang Island took its name from an article in The Onion . [3] Bartell recalled, "I think it was just a funny blip about Donald Rumsfeld having a secret hideaway, and it was on Fang Island." [3]

The band describes its sound as "everyone high-fiving everyone" [4] and their goal, according to Bartell, is to "make music for people who like music". [5]

The band independently released Day of the Great Leap in 2007, followed by an EP, Sky Gardens, in November 2008. Their song "The Absolute Place" was remixed by Chris Keating of Yeasayer in 2009. [6] Fang Island was named one of the year's top 10 albums by Brian Cook of The Stranger . [7] The album's lead single "Daisy", which has an electro-organ introduction and chanted vocals, [8] was played during a series of commercials promoting the MTV reality show The Buried Life . [9] Adam Pfleider of AbsolutePunk described it as a "wild party" that "listeners will want to relive ... over and over again". [10] Dan Goldin of Decoy Music praised the album for "successfully combining the luster of indie pop music with the technical eccentricities of progressive rock". [11] Ian Cohen in Pitchfork Media called the music on Fang Island "honest and life-affirming and infectious". [9] In 2010, Fang Island performed at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas, [3] and were named by the social networking analytics site Next Big Sound as the artists who experienced the fastest growth in online fandom during the festival. [12] While in Austin, the band also recorded three songs for a Daytrotter session. [13] Fang Island entered the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart in April 2010. [14]

In a 2012 interview with New York Music News, Bartell admitted the happy undertones of the band's music, saying, "I am pretty ding-dong-doodily-delighted, all the time." [15]

Their song "Chompers" from the album Major is a playable track on the video game Rocksmith 2014 [16]

Bartell began to produce new music as Mythless. [17] [18]

The Lovely Sparrows is an Austin, Texas based indie rock band currently on Abandoned Love Records and founded by Shawn Jones. Their sound is categorized as indie rock, folk rock, experimental rock, alternative rock, or just rock, blending lush, complex arrangements with sing-along choruses that bring to mind folk-inflected pop and well-written novellas. Pulling Up Floors, Pouring on (New) Paint, released in 2006, captures the gorgeous melodies and warm, organic maladies of front man Shawn Jones. The September 2008 release saw the band embark on its most extensive touring to date, which included CMJ Music Marathon, Pop Montreal and South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. The Lovely Sparrows premiered the music video directed and animated by Eric Power of Clear Productions for "Year of the Dog" off Bury the Cynic during the 2009 SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Sargent House is an American management company and record label based in Los Angeles. It was founded in June 2006 by Cathy Pellow, who is a music video commissioner for Atlantic Records and also owns a music video production company called Refused TV. Pellow began managing the rock outfit RX Bandits in 2006. The band needed to release its new album ...And the Battle Begun, so Pellow decided to launch her own record label. From that point onward, Pellow continued to manage bands and release records, all under the Sargent House banner.

<i>Odd Blood</i> 2010 studio album by Yeasayer

Odd Blood is the self-produced second studio album by American experimental rock band Yeasayer. Recorded in the state of New York during 2009, it was released on February 8, 2010 in Europe and a day later in North America, with Secretly Canadian as the primary label. "Ambling Alp", "O.N.E.", "Madder Red", and "I Remember" were released as singles. Odd Blood peaked at number 63 on the US Billboard 200 and at number 64 on the UK Albums Chart. It reached number five on the US Billboard Independent Albums chart. Yeasayer followed the record's release with an extended tour throughout 2010.

The band also released a vinyl split of their song, Lay Down, in collaboration with Sainthood Reps, under the vinyl label, The Ambitious Guest. After the release of The Death of Day, the band toured with Manchester Orchestra and The Features in February – March 2010. O'Brother joined Thrice's Major/Minor tour in September – November 2011, alongside Moving Mountains and La Dispute. The record was released by Triple Crown and was co-produced by Andy Hull and Robert McDowell from Manchester Orchestra. The band recorded a session at Daytrotter in Nov 2011. In February 2012, O'Brother went on a co-headlining tour with Junius. Aaron Wamack left the band prior to the tour's start.
