Fanny Fischer (born 7 September 1986 in Potsdam) is a German sprint canoer who has been competing since 1996 and on the senior circuit since 2006. [1] [2] She won a gold in the women's K-4 500 m event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing [3] and finished fourth in the K-2 500 m event at those same games. [4] [5]

At the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, Fischer has won nine medals with three golds (K-1 4 × 200 m: 2009, K-2 200 m: 2007, K-2 500 m: 2007), four silvers (K-2 200 m: 2006, 2009; K-2 500 m: 2009), K-4 500 m: 2010, and two bronzes (K-2 500 m: 2005, 2006). [6] [7] [8] [9]

Fischer served as the main pundit for publicly owned television channel Das Erste during their coverage of the canoeing events at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Personal life

Fischer's mother, Sarina Hülsenbeck-Fischer, won a gold medal in women's swimming at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, earning it in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay (anchor leg). Hülsenbeck competed in the qualifying round of the women's 4 × 100 m medley relay, but not in the final. [10] [11] Her father, Frank, won nine ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships medals in the early 1980s. [6] [10] Her aunt, Birgit Fischer, won twelve medals in canoeing at the Summer Olympics between 1980 and 2004. [10] When not competing, she serves in the Bundeswehr as a soldier. Fischer's brother, Falco, is also a canoer. [1]

Jörg Schmidt is an East German sprint canoer who competed in the 1980s. He won a silver medal in the C-1 1000 m event at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

Katrin Borchert is an East German-born Australian sprint canoeist who competed from the late 1980s to 2001. Competing in three Summer Olympics, she won three medals with one silver and two bronzes. During her career, she has represented four countries: East Germany, then West Germany, then Germany followed by Australia.

The women's K-4 500 metres competition in canoeing at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing between August 18 and 22. The K-4 event is raced in four-person kayaks.

The 2003 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships were held September 10–14, 2003 in Gainesville, Georgia, United States at Lake Lanier. Located north of Atlanta, this was also where the canoe sprint and rowing events for the 1996 Summer Olympics took place.

Nicole Reinhardt is a German sprint canoer who competed since 2003. She won a gold medal in the K-4 500 m event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

György Mészáros Hungarian canoeist

György Mészáros was a Hungarian sprint canoeist who competed from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won two silver medals at Rome in 1960, earning them in the K-1 4 × 500 m and the K-2 1000 m events.

Frank-Peter Bischof is an East German sprint canoer who competed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the K-4 1000 m event at Montreal in 1976.

Philippe Boccara is a French-born American sprint kayaker who competed from the late 1970s to the early 2000s (decade). He appeared in six Olympics for France and the United States.
