Faraz Javed is a television journalist, presenter, [1] and producer who has worked in the United States and United Arab Emirates for broadcasters including MTV Networks, part of Viacom Media Networks and Dubai One, Dubai Media Incorporated. [2] [3]

Career

Javed is one of the new broadcast journalists [4] to join ABC News in Detroit at WXYZ-TV. He has covered a variety of stories, from breaking news, to political agendas and issues that impact people across Michigan. Javed is also part of the networks's weekend morning team.

Javed was previously seen as one of the news anchors and senior reporters at Emirates News, Dubai One TV. The program broadcasts from a Dubai Media City studio. However, Javed also reported breaking news from various locations across the United Arab Emirates, covering major events like the Emirates Mars Mission [5] and Abraham Accords among others. In addition to his duties at Dubai One TV, Javed also had his reality series on CrossFit on dubai On demand, [6] [7] one of Dubai's leading YouTube channels.

He has produced a number of television series including That's Entertainment , Hayati Amali, Studio One , Peeta Planet (Consulting Producer) [3] [8] and Mouth Piece. [9] He has also worked on various commercials, infotainment videos, short films, music videos, [10] and feature films such as Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol [3] [11] and Star Trek Beyond . [3]

Javed is also associated with various radio stations in the United States and United Arab Emirates. He has hosted 'Kickstart' on PZR 91.1 FM broadcasting in Michigan [ permanent dead link ] and co-hosted with Ray Addison on Dubai Eye 103.8., [12] [13]

Alongside producing, Javed is an actor, [14] [15] [16] appearing in a number of plays, short films and commercials.

A sports enthusiast, Javed has been trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, swimming, horse riding and Crossfit. [17]

According to human rights organisations, the government of the UAE violates a number of fundamental human rights. The UAE does not have democratically elected institutions and citizens do not have the right to change their government or to form political parties. Activists and academics who criticize the regime are detained and imprisoned, and their families are often harassed by the state security apparatus. There are reports of forced disappearances in the UAE; many foreign nationals and Emirati citizens have been abducted by the UAE government and illegally detained and tortured in undisclosed locations. In numerous instances, the UAE government has tortured people in custody , and has denied their citizens the right to a speedy trial and access to counsel during official investigations.

Dubai One is a Pan Arab English language entertainment television channel, owned by Dubai Media Incorporated. It was launched on 14 May 1994, and is currently managed by Sarah al Jarman. It airs a mix of locally produced and international syndicated content that caters both Arab and non-Arab viewers in the MENA region. It started broadcasting in HD on Nilesat 201 on 28 February 2019.

According to Human Rights Watch, there is substantial discrimination against women in the United Arab Emirates. The status of women has improved over the years. UAE performs better on metrics of gender equality than many other states in the Gulf region, and it has been making reforms to protect women's rights and empower women in different sectors. However, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) released a report in 2021 confirming that the UAE needs to put more effort into improving women's status in the UAE and achieving progress on women's rights. It is estimated that in 2020, 3 million of the total UAE population – 9.9 million – is female.

<i>Studio One</i> (Emirati TV program)

Studio One is a live daily English-language lifestyle television program that originated from United Arab Emirates and was broadcast on Dubai One to 16 countries in the Middle East and North Africa. It aired from January 2011 to March 2014. Created by the same team that produced Dubai One's popular weekly television program Ask One, Studio One is known for its eclectic mix of lifestyle features and celebrity interviews, interactivity and is primarily aimed at women and families. Season One was hosted by Tom Urquhart and Saba Wahid. At the end of the first season Saba left the show and was replaced by former show reporter Aishwarya Ajit. Studio One has been described as Dubai One's flagship show.

The legal system of the United Arab Emirates is based on the civil law system with influences from Islamic, French, Roman and Egyptian laws.
