The Faroe Islands women's national handball team are the women's team for the Faroe Islands.

Contents

In June 2017 the team advanced for the first time from the Qualification Phase 1 to Phase 2 of the European Women's Handball Championship qualification, when they won both matches in their group in the 2018 European Women's Handball Championship qualification which were against Greece and Finland. [1] Faroe Island qualified for the territory's first European Women's Handball Championship in 2024.

The Faroe Islands women's national football team represents the Faroe Islands in women's association football and is controlled by the Faroe Islands Football Association (FSF), the governing body of all football in the Faroe Islands. The FSF became a member of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) in 1988 and Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in 1990. By population, it remains the fourth smallest member of UEFA, which encompasses the countries of Europe. The women's team played their first FIFA-sanctioned international match in 1995 and have never advanced to the finals of the FIFA Women's World Cup or UEFA Women's Championship. They took part in the Island Games in 2001, 2003 and 2005 and won all three tournaments, as well as appearing at the 2010 edition of the Algarve Cup. In the Faroe Islands, the team is known as the Kvinnulandsliðið.

The Faroe Islands national under-21 football team are a feeder team to the Faroe Islands national football team. The Faroe Islands U21 team was first formed in 2006 and took part in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying for the first time in 2007 and 2008. Before this there was no step between the U-19 team and the senior team.

The Faroe Islands national handball team is the national handball team of Faroe Islands and is controlled by the Handball Federation of the Faroe Islands.

The Croatia national under-17 football team represents Croatia in international football matches for players aged 17 or under. It is governed by the Croatian Football Federation, the governing body for football in Croatia. It is a member of UEFA in Europe and FIFA in global competitions. The team's colours reference two national symbols: the Croatian checkerboard and the country's tricolour. They are colloquially referred to as the Mali vatreni. So far, the Mali vatreni qualified for nine UEFA European Under-17 Championships. Croatia's greatest success in the tournament was third place in 2001. The team also finished fourth in 2005. Croatia also participated in three FIFA U-17 World Cups since its independence, in 2001, 2013 and 2015, being eliminated in quarter-finals in 2015, its biggest success so far in this tournament.

The Faroe Islands U-17 National Team represents the Faroe Islands at under-17 age level and is controlled by the Faroe Islands Football Association.

The Gibraltar national football team represents Gibraltar in football and is controlled by the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA), the local governing body of that sport. It competes as a member of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), which encompasses the countries of Europe. Organised football has been played in the country since the 19th century. Gibraltar first applied for UEFA membership in 1997 which was rejected, as UEFA would only allow membership for applicants recognised as sovereign states by the United Nations. In October 2012, Gibraltar reapplied for membership and it was granted in March 2013.

The 2017 IHF Emerging Nations Handball Championship was the second edition of the IHF Emerging Nations Championship held in Bulgaria under the aegis of International Handball Federation. The tournament was held in two cities, Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo, from 12 to 18 June 2017.

The Kosovo national men's handball team is the national handball team of Kosovo, representing the country in international competition. The team is governed by Handball Federation of Kosovo. The national handball team started competing in international competitions in 2014, following Kosovo's full status recognition from the International Handball Federation (IHF).

The 2024 European Women's Handball Championship is held in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland from 28 November to 15 December 2024. This is the first tournament to feature 24 teams. Norway are the two time defending champions.

The 2025 IHF World Men's Handball Championship, will be the 29th event hosted by the International Handball Federation. It will be held in Croatia, Denmark and Norway from 14 January to 2 February 2025. This edition marks the first time the world championship is being held in three countries.

Bára Skaale Klakstein is a Faroese football coach and former defender. She was a member of the Faroe Islands women's national team between 1996 and 2013, winning 20 caps. She is the mother of fellow Faroe Islands international player Eyðvør Klakstein and they played together in the senior national team in 2012 and 2013. They became the first parent-offspring combination to play together in a national team in football. The Faroe Islands Football Association (FSF) has described Klakstein as one of the most important figures in the history of Faroese women's football.

The European qualification for the 2023 World Men's Handball Championship determined nine European contestants at the final tournament, which joined six already qualified teams: Sweden and Poland, as co-hosts, Denmark, as title holder, and three best ranked teams at 2022 European Men's Handball Championship excluding Sweden, Poland and Denmark.

Pernille Brandenborg is a Faroese-Danish handballer who plays for København Håndbold in the Danish Women's Handball League and the Faroe Islands women's national team.

Tabea Schmid is a Swiss female handballer for Danish club København Håndbold and the Swiss national team.

The women's handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the management of the Handball Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Lív Bentsdóttir Zachariasen is a Faroese handball player for Ajax København and the Faroese national team.
