緣 Fate (sometimes credited as 緣 • 痴心誤會 Fate • Loving Misunderstanding) is an EP by cantopop singer Prudence Liew, released in 1989.

Extended play musical recording longer than a single, but shorter than a full album

An extended play record, often referred to as an EP, is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. Contemporary EPs generally contain a minimum of three tracks and maximum of six tracks, and are considered "less expensive and time-consuming" for an artist to produce than an album. An EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) and LP, but it is now applied to mid-length CDs and downloads as well.

Cantopop music genre

Cantopop or HK-pop is a genre of popular music written in standard modern Chinese but sung in Cantonese. Cantopop is also used to refer to the cultural context of its production and consumption. The genre began in the 1970s and became associated with Hong Kong popular music from the middle of the decade. Cantopop then reached its height of popularity in the 1980s and 1990s before slowly declining in the 2000s and slight revival in the 2010s. The term "Cantopop" itself was coined in 1978 after "Cantorock", a term first used in 1974. Cantopop reached its highest glory with a fanbase and concert reaching Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan especially with the influx of songs from Hong Kong movies.

Prudence Liew Mei-Gwan is a multi-platinum selling Hong Kong pop singer and Golden Horse Award winning actress, having released 16 studio albums and appearing in numerous films.

Background information

As Liew was pregnant with her second child after the release of Loving Prince 公子多情, she was on maternity leave for much of 1989. To tie fans over until the release of her next album Jokingly Saying 笑說, Current Records decided to produce a remix album and this EP containing two songs that were themes from TVB series and TV movies. [1] This is also Liew's last studio release on Current Records before it was bought out by BMG Music in 1989.
