The Xaverian Brothers or Congregation of St. Francis Xavier are a Roman Catholic religious institute founded by Theodore James Ryken in Bruges, Belgium, in 1839 and named after Saint Francis Xavier. The institute is dedicated to education.

The Basilica of Our lady of Mount Carmel & St Joseph, popularly known as Varapuzha Basilica, is in Varapuzha, a northern suburban town of Kochi City in the Ernakulam district of Kerala state, India. It was built in 1673. The basilica is dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Joseph. The solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady is celebrated as an annual sixteen-day confraternity festival, from 31 July to 15 August. The basilica is also famous as a pilgrimage centre in the southern part of India. It serves as the mother church for 14 churches.

Martha Mary O'Neill (1878–1972), known by her religious name as Mother Patricia, was an Australian nun who became superior general for the Australian Union of the Sisters of Mercy. She was born in Cork, Ireland, and emigrated with her family to Victoria, Australia, in 1886. She joined the Sisters of Mercy as a young woman, professing her vows in 1903. She became superior general of the newly formed Australian Union of the Sisters of Mercy in 1954, and served in this role for twelve years, retiring in 1966.
