Fyodor Sergeyevich Kuzmin (also Fedor Kuzmin, ‹See Tfd› Russian : Фёдор Серге́евич Кузьмин; born 17 April 1983 in Rybinsk, Russian SFSR) is a Russian table tennis player. [3] Kuzmin won a gold medal in the men's singles at the 2005 ITTF Pro Tour series in Velenje, Slovenia. [4] He also captured a silver medal, along with his partner Oksana Fadeyeva, in the mixed doubles at the 2007 European Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, losing out to the defending Eastern European pair Aleksandar Karakašević (Serbia) and Rūta Paškauskienė (Lithuania). [5] As of October 2014, Kuzmin is ranked no. 164 in the world by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). [2] He is also right-handed, and uses the classic grip. [1]
Kuzmin qualified for the men's singles tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by receiving a place as one of the top 8 seeded players from the European Qualification Tournament in Nantes, France. [6] [7] He received a single bye for the first round match, before losing out to Italy's Mihai Bobocica, with a set score of 1–4. [8] Kuzmin also joined with his fellow players Alexei Smirnov and four-time Olympian Dmitry Mazunov for the inaugural men's team event. Kuzmin and his team placed fourth in the preliminary pool round against Japan, Hong Kong, and Nigeria, receiving a total score of three points and three straight losses. [9] [10] [11]
Li Jiawei is a retired Chinese-born former Singaporean table tennis player, four-time Olympian and twice Olympic medalist. She trained in Beijing's famous Shichahai Sports School with Olympic medalist Zhang Yining. In 1995, she moved to Singapore and in the following year, she commenced her international career as a competitive table tennis player. She became a Singapore citizen at the age of 18 years under the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme.
Wang Hao is a retired Chinese table tennis player and multiple-time Olympic medallist. He is the current head coach of the Chinese Men's Table Tennis Team.
Aleksandar Karakašević is a Serbian table tennis player. His powerful backhand has helped him win against some of the top players in the world. He won a bronze medal at the 2011 European Championship. One of his greatest results achieved in USA is his victory at the US Open Championship in July 2007, where he established himself as a world class athlete, winning the tournament title for the 3rd time by defeating Kurashima Yosuke from Japan with the result of 4:0. In 2020 at the age of 45 he is still playing in German Bundesliga representing TTC ZUGBRÜCKE GRENZAU.
The men's singles table tennis event was part of the table tennis programme at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The event took place from Saturday 28 July to Thursday 2 August 2012 at ExCeL London. The tournament was a single elimination tournament with a third place playoff played between the two losing semi-finalists. In the 2008 event all three medals were won by Chinese athletes with Ma Lin taking gold.
