Flash in the Pan is the third studio album by Australian multi-instrumentalist musician Jay Watson's music moniker GUM. [2] The album was teased on YouTube on 3 November 2016, [3] and was released on 16 November 2016 in Australia by Spinning Top Music. [4] [5] The album was preceded by the single "Gemini." [6] [7] Watson explained that it was "the first song I recorded for the album, and probably the most immediate." [8] It featured a contribution by Sergio Flores on saxophone. [9] [10]

Reception

The album was described as "such an electrical release" and "a fresh take on synth rock." [11] [12] The first single from this album, "Gemini," was described by NME as "a swirl of looped vocals, Pond-y synth work and dreamy, subtle bass". [13] Writing for Clash Magazine, Noveen Bajpai wrote, "[This album] digs deeper into ‘80s power pop, and doesn’t exactly start off with the kind of bang suggested by the mothership-esque landing of its title track." [14]

Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker, Dominic Simper, Jay Watson, Cam Avery, and Julien Barbagallo. The group has a close affiliation with fellow Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, sharing members and collaborators, including Nick Allbrook, formerly a live member of Tame Impala. Released is the fourth studio album by the American singer Patti LaBelle. It was released by Epic Records on March 14, 1980, in the United States. The album featured the hits "I Don't Go Shopping", written by previous collaborator David Lasley and musician Peter Allen, and the title track, "Release ", which was written by funk legend Allen Toussaint, who produced the entire album. The title track found some international success upon its release while "I Don't Go Shopping" was her first top 40 R&B charted single since 1977. Along with her frequent collaborator, James "Budd" Ellison, LaBelle lyrically co-wrote the last five songs on the album.

Pond are a psychedelic rock band from Perth, Western Australia, formed in 2008. Initially featuring a revolving line-up, since 2016 the band has consisted of Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, Shiny Joe Ryan, Jamie Terry, and James Ireland.

Lonerism is the second studio album by Australian musical project Tame Impala, released on 5 October 2012 by Modular Recordings. Like the band's debut studio album, Innerspeaker (2010), Lonerism was written, recorded, performed, and produced by Kevin Parker, with live member Jay Watson contributing on two tracks. Recorded mostly in Perth, Australia, and Paris, France, Lonerism builds on the psychedelic sound of its predecessor and features fewer guitars and more synthesisers and samples. Parker attempted to incorporate his love for pop music into his songwriting for the record through catchier melodies. Many tracks feature ambient sounds recorded by Parker with a dictaphone. The album's theme of isolation is reflected in the album cover, featuring an image of a fenced-off Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris.

Omar Banos, known professionally as Cuco, is a Mexican American (Chicano) singer-songwriter and record producer from Hawthorne, California. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is an Australian psychedelic rock band formed in 2014 in Perth. Members include Jack McEwan, Luke Parish (guitar), Danny Caddy (drums), Luke Reynolds (bass), and Chris Young (keyboard), who began playing together in "an old horse barn in rural Leederville". Their genre and sound has been compared to that of other popular psychedelic rock bands in Australia, such as King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Tame Impala. They have self-described their sound as "an energetic mess of colour and tone". Concerning the reasoning behind the name of the band, its members have given little explanation. The band claims it was chosen at random because they thought it was amusing. The word crumpet may be unusual to some, as it is a traditional English food described in the Cambridge Dictionary as "a small, round type of bread with holes in one side that is eaten hot with butter".

Matthew Tavares Canadian musician, songwriter, and music producer

Matthew Adam Tavares, also known as Matty, is a Canadian musician, songwriter, and music producer. He is best known as a founder of the instrumental group BADBADNOTGOOD, with whom he released five studio albums and produced with for other artists. Tavares released his first solo album in 2018 and has since released a series of solo and collaborative genre-spanning albums. Horst Weidenmüller

Horst Weidenmüller is a German music executive producer and entrepreneur, founder of !K7 Music. He has been part of the music industry since the early 1980s when he began as a producer of concert video footage of musicians in the punk music genre. He founded !K7 in 1985 and became an influential part of the Berlin techno music industry in the early 1990s. Weidenmüller curated and produced a popular techno music audiovisual series, X-Mix, which aired on MTV in the mid-1990s. The album was produced, mixed and recorded by Jay Watson himself, with additional drums by fellow Australian multi-instrumentalist musician Kevin Parker, at his home studio. The album is considered to the most consistent record that Watson had released as GUM as of 2018. Talking about the album, Watson said that, "I kind of just don’t really think about the kind of music I’m trying to make anymore as much. I’ve kind of just – it kinda sounds really cliché but I kinda just do stuff and then whatever it is, it is, you know."

Out in the World is the fifth studio album by Australian multi-instrumentalist musician Jay Watson's music moniker GUM. The album was digitally released on 12 June 2020 in Australia by Spinning Top Music, and was distributed by Caroline Australia. The album was preceded by the single of the same name, which was released on 12 March 2020. About the album, Watson said, "It's not possible for all, but for me, I force myself to go out again, or get on stage, or do whatever it is I have to do to keep moving on." Alike his previous album, Out in the World was produced, recorded, mixed all by Watson himself. The album has been described as "pleasant, dreamy, and vague", and "a sonic edifice that impresses with its grandeur".
