Fons Hickmann (born 1966) is a German graphic designer and professor of Communication Design at the Berlin University of the Arts. He is the founder and director of the design studio Fons Hickmann m23.
Hickmann was born in the German city of Hamm and studied photography and communication design combined with philosophy at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf, and aesthetics and media theory in Wuppertal. In 2001 Hickmann and Gesine Grotrian-Steinweg founded the design studio Fons Hickmann m23 in Berlin. Hickmann serves as its director. The emphasis of the studio's work is on the development of complex communication systems and corporate design as well as book, poster, magazine and web design. The studio has received numerous international awards, and its works have been represented at every international design biennial. [1] [2] [3]
Hickmann was a professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna from 2001 to 2007, before taking over the professorship in Graphic Design in the Berlin University of the Arts Faculty of Design in 2007. [2] Previously, he had taught at the Universities of Essen and Dortmund, and gave lectures and seminars in, among other places, London, Ljubliana, Istanbul, Beijing and Shanghai. He is an appointed member of the Type Directors Club of New York and the Art Directors Club Germany, as well as of the Alliance Graphique Internationale . [4]
Hickmann and his colleagues promoted the initiative "11 Designers for Germany" which tried to bring a consciousness of graphic design into the public sphere. The group received wide media attention for their effort to prevent the adoption of an embarrassing logo for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. [5]
Hickmann and his studio were invited to exhibit at the opening of Museum of the Image (MOTI) in the Netherlands, the world's first graphic design museum. The exhibition, European Championship of Graphic Design was opened by Queen Beatrix in June 2008. [6] [7]
From 2012 to 2014 he was a member of the expert jury of the "Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany". Since 2018 he is president of the professional association 100 Beste Plakate (100 Best Posters). [8]

Josef Müller-Brockmann was a Swiss graphic designer, author, and educator, he was a Principal at Muller-Brockmann & Co. design firm. He was a pioneer of the International Typographic Style. One of the main masters of Swiss design. Müller-Brockmann is recognized for his simple designs and his clean use of typography, shapes and colors which inspire many graphic designers in the 21st century.

A poster is a large sheet that is placed either on a public space to promote something or on a wall as decoration. Typically, posters include both textual and graphic elements, although a poster may be either wholly graphical or wholly text. Posters are designed to be both eye-catching and informative. Posters may be used for many purposes. They are a frequent tool of advertisers, propagandists, protestors, and other groups trying to communicate a message. Posters are also used for reproductions of artwork, particularly famous works, and are generally low-cost compared to the original artwork. The modern poster, as we know it, however, dates back to the 1840s and 1850s when the printing industry perfected colour lithography and made mass production possible.

Friedrich Kurt Fiedler was a German graphic designer and a representative of the Social Democratic Party. During the Weimar Republic he was acknowledged for his poster design, his book illustrations and his drawings. After World War II, he belonged to the re-founders of the association of fine arts in Dresden, but lost his influence when all social-democratic forces were repelled.
The Bröhan Museum is a Berlin state museum for Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Functionalism, located in Berlin's Charlottenburg district. The Museum is named after its founder, entrepreneur and art collector Karl. H. Bröhan (1921–2000), who donated his collection to the state of Berlin on the occasion of his 60th birthday. In 1983, the Bröhan Museum opened in its current space, which belongs to the Charlottenburg Palace ensemble and was originally built for the guard regiment. Since 1994, it has been a state museum.

Gábor Palotai is a Swedish–Hungarian designer, artist, graphic designer and typographer. Since 1981 he lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden. Gábor Palotai was born 1956 in Budapest, Hungary, where he also studied and received his MA degree in graphic design at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest 1976–1980. After his graduation he left Budapest and moved to Stockholm, where he continued his studies at The Royal Institute of Art, 1981–1983 and Beckmans College of Design, 1983–1984. Gábor Palotai is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 2002. AGI unites the world's leading graphic designers. He is also a member of Svenska tecknare, Konstnärernas riksorganisation, and since 2015, the State Heraldic Board of the National Archives of Sweden. Gábor Palotai is an honorary professor at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest, and in 2021 he received the Knight's Cross Order of Merit of Hungary.
Alan Kitching RDI AGI Hon FRCA is a practitioner of letterpress typographic design and printmaking. Kitching exhibits and lectures across the globe, and is known for his expressive use of wood and metal letterforms in commissions and limited-edition prints.
The association 100 Beste Plakate e.V. is an interest group for graphics, design and the graphic arts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The association was founded with the aim of promoting, awarding and strengthening the public awareness of the high design quality of the poster medium.
