The Pakistan national football team represents Pakistan in men's international football in FIFA-authorized events and is controlled by the Pakistan Football Federation, the governing body for football in Pakistan. Pakistan became a member of FIFA in 1948 joining the Asian Football Confederation and its national team debuted in 1950.

The 2005 South Asian Football Federation Cup was the sixth edition of South Asian Football Federation Cup. It was the second time the competition was held in Pakistan. This was the first season to feature separate A- and B- leagues, with a complicated two-stage format to the season.

The field hockey tournament at the 2003 Pan American Games was held in the Santo Domingo Stadium, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from August 1–17, 2003. Men's football tournament at 2004 South Asian Games was held across 3 venues in Pakistan from March 28 to April 6, 2004. The tournament was delayed twice due to conflicts between the Pakistani alliance with Afghanistan/Iraq and US foreign policy at the time during the events that followed 9/11.

The women's football tournament of the 2010 South Asian Games is the first ever edition of the tournament. India won gold medal with a 3–1 win over Nepal.
