The Fort Leney Novice Chase, currently run as the Racing Post Long Distance Novice Chase, is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland. It is run over a distance of 3 miles (4,828 metres) at Leopardstown and during its running there are 17 fences to be jumped. It takes place annually during the Christmas Festival meeting.

The race was previously run as a Grade 3 and Grade 2 race, before being awarded Grade 1 status in 2003. The 2014 race was run as the Topaz Novice Chase. From 2015 to 2013 it was sponsored by Neville Hotels and usually took place on 29 December. In 2024 the Racing Post took over the sponsorship and the race was moved to St Stephen's Day. [1]

Charlie Swan is a former top National Hunt jockey in Ireland in the 1990s. He is associated with the great Istabraq, on whom he won three Champion Hurdles. He was twice top jockey at the Cheltenham Festival and was champion National Hunt jockey in Ireland for nine consecutive years. Faugheen is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2015 Champion Hurdle and back-to-back Christmas Hurdles in 2014 and 2015. His best performance on a racecourse came in the 2016 Irish Champion Hurdle for which he was rated the best two-mile hurdler of the 21st century. His career started over Point-to-point fences as a four-year-old and was sent racing under National Hunt rules in the 2013/2014 season where he emerged as a leading Novice hurdler, winning all of his races including the Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle, Cheltenham Novices Hurdle and Herald Champion Novice Hurdle acquiring the nickname "The Machine" in the process.

It is run at Leopardstown over a distance of about 2 miles and 1 furlong, and during its running there are eleven fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year in early February. The race was first run as a Grade 2 race in 2018 as part of a new Dublin Racing Festival and was upgraded to Grade 1 status from the 2019 running.
