Forward Together is a municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The party was led by then-Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart through the 2022 municipal election, which he lost to Ken Sim.
Kennedy Stewart was elected mayor as an independent in the 2018 Vancouver municipal election, presiding over 10 councillors elected from four different parties. Though he pledged to work co-operatively with councillors, ensuing policy disagreements with other parties prompted Stewart to form his own organization in 2020, initially called Team Kennedy Stewart. [1] In April 2022, the party rebranded as "Forward Together with Kennedy Stewart". With Stewart seeking re-election as mayor in the 2022 Vancouver municipal election, Forward Together announced its first three council candidates in June 2022, [2] and another three candidates by September 2022. [3]
The party aimed to elect a "progressive majority" [4] to city council, which, as elected in 2018, was evenly divided between the centre-right/right-wing Non-Partisan Association (NPA) and the centre-left/left-wing Greens, OneCity, and COPE. Forward Together stated it would run up to six council candidates, leaving room for other centre-left parties to elect their own councillors. [5]
Kennedy Stewart, prior to being elected mayor, served as a member of Parliament and was affiliated with the New Democratic Party, as were council candidates Dulcy Anderson (constituency assistant to BC NDP MLA David Eby), [6] Tesicca Truong and Jeanette Ashe (previously BC NDP candidates). Council candidate Russil Wvong served as riding chair for the Vancouver Kingsway Liberal electoral district association. [7]
Stewart was defeated in his candidacy for re-election on October 15, 2022. None of Forward Together's six candidates for city council were elected. The party did not run any candidates for school board or park board, opting to endorse Vision Vancouver's school and parks candidates. Stewart was endorsed by Vision in the mayoral race. [8]
After the 2022 election, the party changed its ballot name to "Forward Together". The party states it is working to advance several priorities ahead of the 2026 municipal election, including affordable housing, democratic reform, and climate change policies. [9]

The Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) is a municipal political party in the Canadian city of Vancouver, British Columbia. It has traditionally been associated with tenants, environmentalists, and the labour movement. COPE is generally guided by democratic socialist principles following the split of its social democratic wing in 2014 to form OneCity Vancouver, and has a long history of advocating for issues such as improving public transit and investing in affordable housing. It last held a majority government on city council from 2002 to 2005. COPE describes itself as being committed to renter protections, ending homelessness, taxing the rich to build social housing, safe supply, free transit, Indigenous reconciliation, climate action, and other social and environmental reforms.
The Non-Partisan Association (NPA) is a municipal political party in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was established by the city's business leaders in 1937 to challenge the democratic socialist Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) in that year's municipal election. The party has historically been described as centre-right and drawn its strongest support from Vancouver's business community.
Michael David Prue is a politician in Ontario, Canada. Prue was mayor of East York, Ontario to 1997 and subsequently represented the riding of Beaches—East York in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2001 to 2014 as member of the New Democratic Party (NDP)'s Queen's Park caucus. The city of Vancouver, Canada, held municipal elections on November 17, 1990. Canadian citizens who were over 18 years of age at the time of the vote, and had been a resident of Vancouver for the previous 30 days and a resident of B.C. for the previous six months, were able to vote for candidates in four races that were presented on one ballot.
