Several studios have struck agreements to have their content aired elsewhere. In 2012, HBO signed a deal to air Universal Studios pictures, prompting Fox to no longer air them on its premium channels. In 2014, Fox International Channels Latin America announced the launch of the multiplatform Fox+ Play brand and online service. On November 3 of that year, Moviecity was rebranded and restructured, and a commercial-free Fox Comedy channel launched.
In 2016, Fox+ launched in Brazil with two channels, Fox 1 and Fox Action. These channels initially aired only series, as the movie rights held in much of Latin America belonged to then-competitor Rede Telecine there.
The Fox+ Premium name was changed to Fox Premium in 2017. The channels were renamed differently in each region.
On November 27, 2020 Disney announced that they would be renaming the Fox branded channels in Latin America to Star on 22 February 2021. [1]
