Frank Murphy (born May 1944) is an Irish Gaelic games administrator and former referee. He was secretary of the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association 1972 to 2018 and has served on numerous Gaelic games committees at national level. [1]
Murphy is seen as the most powerful figure in Gaelic games in Cork. At times he has been viewed as a divisive figure due to his central involvement in all three strikes by the Cork senior hurling team and Cork senior football team between 2002 and 2009. [2]
Murphy previously served as a referee at the highest levels,taking charge of numerous All-Ireland deciders,while he was also a selector at all levels with various Cork Gaelic football and hurling teams.[ citation needed ]

This was until 12 October 2008 when they captured their first adult county after an Intermediate A Hurling win over Bandon. In 2009 they captured the football title,by beating Cill na Martra. In 2014 they secured their first top level county by defeating St. Finbarr's,in the Premier 1 Minor Football Final. In 2015 the club reached the Promised Land beating St Michael's in the Cork Premier Intermediate Football Championship Final,on a scoreline of 0–12 to 0-11.
The 2008 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final was a hurling match played on 7 September 2008 in Croke Park,Dublin,between Kilkenny and Waterford. The match was the 121st All-Ireland Hurling Final and the culmination of the 2008 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. It was the fourth time the teams played each other in the final,having played each other previously in 1957,1959 and 1963. Kilkenny won their 31st All-Ireland Championship and in doing so overtook Cork on the roll of honour. The Kilkenny win witnessed the county doing three in a row for the first time since 1913. The match represented Waterford's sixth appearance in the All-Ireland Final and their first for 45 years since 1963. Waterford has not won the All-Ireland Championship since 1959.
