John Mathias Engler is an American politician,lawyer,businessman,and lobbyist who served as the 46th governor of Michigan from 1991 to 2003. Considered one of the country's top lobbyists,he is a member of the Republican Party.
Dennis Wayne Archer is an American lawyer,jurist and former politician from Michigan. A Democrat,Archer served as Justice on the Michigan Supreme Court and as mayor of Detroit. He later served as president of the American Bar Association,becoming the first black president of the organization,which,until 1943,had barred African-American lawyers from membership.
The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members,each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents,based on population figures from the 2020 U.S. census. Its composition,powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution.
The government of Detroit,Michigan is run by a mayor,the nine-member Detroit City Council,the eleven-member Board of Police Commissioners,and a clerk. All of these officers are elected on a nonpartisan ballot,with the exception of four of the police commissioners,who are appointed by the mayor. Detroit has a "strong mayoral" system,with the mayor approving departmental appointments. The council approves budgets,but the mayor is not obligated to adhere to any earmarking. The city clerk supervises elections and is formally charged with the maintenance of municipal records. City ordinances and substantially large contracts must be approved by the council.
Hansen Hashim Clarke is an American politician and former U.S. Congressman. A Democrat,he was the U.S. representative for Michigan's 13th congressional district from 2011 to 2013. Prior to his election to Congress,he had been a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1991 through 1992 and from 1999 through 2002,and represented the 1st district in the Michigan Senate from 2003 to 2011. Clarke was also the first U.S. Congressman of Bangladeshi descent.

In the Michigan Senate,he represented the 1st district,which included the municipalities of Ecorse,Gibraltar,River Rouge,Riverview,Trenton,Woodhaven,Wyandotte and a portion of Detroit. He served as the vice chair of the Local Government and Elections Committee,General Government Appropriations Subcommittee,Judiciary Appropriations Subcommittee,Licensing And Regulatory Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee and Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee. Young also sat on the Appropriations Committee and Insurance Committee. He previously served as the vice chair of the Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Committee and Reforms,Restructuring and Reinventing Committee,as well as having previously served on the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee,Education Committee and Energy and Technology Committee. From 2011 to 2014,Young served as the Senate Assistant Minority Caucus Chair and also served as the Senate Assistant Minority Floor Leader.

John E. Jamian is an American businessman,former U.S. government official,and Michigan State Legislator. He served as deputy and later acting maritime administrator,the head of the U.S. Maritime Administration,an agency of the United States Department of Transportation,from 2003 until 2006. He was confirmed as deputy maritime administrator by the Senate on May 7,2003 and became acting maritime administrator February 12,2005. Prior to his service at the Maritime Administration,Jamian was elected to three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1991 to 1996. From 1997 to 2001 he served as executive director of the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority and from 2001 until his appointment as deputy director in 2003 as the executive director the Armenian Assembly of America. Between 2011 and 2015,Jamian resumed his role as executive director at the Port of Detroit. Since returning to private life in 2015,he has held the position of Chief Operations Officer for Troy,Michigan based AmeriCare Medical Inc. and continues to serve as the Armenian Assembly of America's State of Michigan Director.
John Olumba is an American attorney,politician and Democrat who served two terms as a member of the Michigan State House of Representatives. He represented the 3rd house district located in Wayne County,which comprises the north central and eastern portions of Detroit. After serving on the House Judiciary,Commerce,Economic Development and Trade,Insurance,and Criminal Justice committees,Olumba served on the House Appropriations Committee as the chairman of Fiscal Oversight,and as a member on Community Health,and Corrections.

A member of the Democratic Party,he is the first openly LGBT person elected to the Michigan Senate,as well as the first to serve as President Pro Tempore. Moss previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2014 - 2018,and remains the youngest-ever member of the Southfield City Council.
John Charles Hertel is a former chairman of the Huron–Clinton Metroparks,chairman of the Detroit Metro Convention &Visitors Bureau,and general manager of Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation. He served three terms as state senator for the 2nd District in Michigan from 1974 to 1982,was appointed by Governor John Engler to run the Michigan State Fair from 1993 to 2006,and is the only person in Michigan history to serve as chairman of the county boards of commissioners in two different counties.
