Karin Balzer was an East German hurdler who competed in the 80 m hurdles event at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Olympics, and in the 100 m hurdles in 1972. She won a gold medal in 1964 and a bronze in 1972, while finishing fifth in 1968. During her career she set 37 world's best performances.

Ginka Zagorcheva-Boycheva, Bulgarian: Гинка Загорчева-Бойчева is a former hurdling athlete from Bulgaria. She held the world record for a year with a time of 12.25 sec, until it was beaten by Yordanka Donkova in August 1988. She also competed in the women's 100 metres hurdles at the 1988 Summer Olympics.

The African island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, held from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's fifth appearance at the Olympics since its debut in 1996. Two track and field athletes, Christopher Lima da Costa and Lecabela Quaresma were selected to the team by wildcard places, without having qualified at any sporting event. The sprint hurdles at the Summer Olympics have been contested over a variety of distances at the multi-sport event. The men's 110 metres hurdles has been present on the Olympic athletics programme since the first edition in 1896. A men's 200 metres hurdles was also briefly held, from 1900 to 1904. The first women's sprint hurdling event was added to the programme at the 1932 Olympics in the form of the 80 metres hurdles. At the 1972 Games the women's distance was extended to the 100 metres hurdles, which is the current international standard.
James Robert Maxwell was an American runner. He competed at the 1928 Olympics in the 400 m hurdles, but failed to reach the final. As a student of Pomona College he won the AAU 220 yard hurdles title in 1927 and 1930–1931.
Leonard "Leon" Coleman is an American hurdler who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics.
Danuta Straszyńska is a Polish former hurdler and sprinter. She won the 80 metres hurdles title at the 1965 Universiade in 10.6 seconds, and won a gold medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 1966 European Championships. She went on to finish sixth in the 80 metres hurdles final at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in 10.6 seconds.
