In 2013, From Dusk till Dawn: The Series , a television adaptation of the films, had begun production, without any further mention of the film. [7]
Rodriguez developed a TV series for his cable network El Rey. [8] It stars Robert Patrick as Jacob Fuller, Eiza González as Santanico Pandemonium, and Don Johnson as Sheriff McGraw. [9] [10] The series debuted on El Rey in the United States on March 11, 2014, and internationally on Netflix two days later.

He first began his career in the 1980s by directing and writing Love Birds In Bondage and writing, directing and starring in the black-and-white My Best Friend's Birthday, a partially lost amateur short film which was never officially released. The series adds to the tone of the film, with new characters and backstories, while expanding the snake creatures' Mesoamerican mythology. The series also references the Popol Vuh, drawing on its rich, mythological history and, in particular, on the legend of the Hero Twins Hunahpú and Xbalanqué to add greater depth to the backstories and to fully flesh out the characters of the show's protagonists, the Gecko Brothers, Seth and Richie.
