The Vietnam national football team represents the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in international football and is controlled by the Vietnam Football Federation, the governing body of football in Vietnam.
Vietnam competed at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines under the IOC country code VIE. By sending a delegation of 516 athletes and competing in 33 out of 40 sports and in 352 out of a total of 439 events, it aimed for a top three placing in the medals table. The final result showed that the Vietnamese team has attained its goal by ranking first in the medal tally with 18 gold, 24 silver and 11 bronze medals. The chief of mission to the games was Nguyen Hong Minh.
The Vietnam national under-22, under-23, and Olympic football team represents Vietnam in international football tournaments at the under-22 and under-23 age level.

The futsal tournament at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games took place from 17 to 22 November 2011. This edition of the tournament featured both men's and women's tournaments. All matches were held in POPKI Sports Hall, Jakarta.
The 27th association football tournament at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games took place in Myanmar between 7–21 December. It was played among U-23 national teams, while the women's tournament had no age limit.

The 2018 AFC Women's Futsal Championship was the second edition of the AFC Women's Futsal Championship, the biennial international futsal championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the women's national teams of Asia. It took place in Thailand, which was appointed as hosts by the AFC on 29 July 2017, between 2 and 12 May 2018. The tournament was originally to be held between 15–26 August 2017, two years after the inaugural edition in 2015, but was postponed to the following year.
The 2018 AFF Futsal Championship will be the 15th edition of the tournament. The tournament will be held in November 2018 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
The women's football tournament at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games was the tenth women's SEA Games football tournament. The tournament was held in Malaysia from 20 to 28 August 2017 where five teams participated in a round-robin format. There were no age restrictions on women's teams.
The 2018 Vinaphone Cup is an international Olympic association football friendly tournament, sponsored by Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) with the competition is named after Vinaphone, a subsidiary-mobile network which is part of VNPT. Vietnam as the hosts use the tournament as their preparation for the Asian Games held in Indonesia.
The men's football tournament at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was held from 25 November to 10 December 2019 in the Philippines. All eleven Southeast Asian nations participated in the men's tournament. Matches were played in Manila, Biñan and Imus. Men's teams were restricted to under-22 players.
The women's football tournament at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was the eleventh women's SEA Games football tournament. The tournament was held in Philippines from 26 November to 8 December 2019 where six teams participated. There were no age restrictions on women's teams.
Indonesia participated at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from 12 to 23 May 2022. The Indonesian contingent consisted of 499 athletes, competing in 32 out 40 sports.
The men's football tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games was held from 6 – 22 May 2022 in Vietnam. Ten Southeast Asian nations participated in the men's tournament. The group stage and semi-finals were played in Việt Trì and Nam Định, while Hanoi hosted the bronze and gold medal matches. Men's teams are restricted to under-23 players with a maximum of three over-aged players allowed.
The women's football tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games was held from 6–22 May 2022 in Vietnam. Seven Southeast Asian nations participated in the women's tournament. All matches were played in Quảng Ninh. There was no age limit for this tournament. Indonesia withdrew from the competition after the draw. Malaysia withdrew from the competition before the draw. Timor-Leste did not take part in the competition.
The futsal tournament at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games is scheduled to be held from 10 to 20 May 2022 in Vietnam. All matches will be held at Hà Nam Gymnasium in Phủ Lý. Hà Nam Province.
