G-Series is a major Bangladeshi record label. [2] The company produces and publishes cassettes, CDs, VCDs, and DVDs of dramas, telefilms, movies, and music. [1] It is one of the largest such companies in Bangladesh. [3] The owner of the company is Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan, popularly known as Khaled. [4] [5] The Daily Star described it a major record label in Bangladesh. [6]

History

G-Series was established in 1983 by Nazmul Haque Bhuiyan. In 2006, Agniveena production was founded as a sister concern of G-Series. G-series is named after the famous book of poems, Gitanjali of Rabindranath Tagore. [1] In 2007, G-Series was seeing a decline in the sale of compact disks due to piracy. [7]

In 2010, for the Eid market, G-series and Agniveena, its sister concern, released 30 albums. [8] The same year the company partnered with BBC World Service Trust to launch BBC Janala on CD. BBC Janala is a program of the trust, English in action, with an aim of making English lessons more accessible. [9]

In 2011, G-Series partnered with Nescafé to launch Get Set Rock, a talent hunt which was won by S.I.X. G-Series released an album of the winner, S.I.X, and the runner-up, Rang, titled Nescafé 'Get Set Rock. [10]

In 1971, the Pakistan Army and their local collaborators, most notably the extreme right wing militia group Al-Badr, engaged in the systematic execution of Bengali intellectuals during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Bengali intellectuals were abducted, tortured and killed during the entire duration of the war as part of the 1971 Bangladesh genocide. However, the largest number of systematic executions took place on 25 March and 14 December 1971, two dates that bookend the conflict. 14 December is commemorated in Bangladesh as Martyred Intellectuals Day.

Shironamhin is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in Dhaka in 14 April 1996. Following as a rock group emerging from Dhaka's underground music in the late 1990s, they were distinguished for their extended psychedelic and progressive compositions, multi-instrumental experimentation, and philosophical lyrics and became one of the leading band of the Bengali progressive rock genre. In 2008, the band became a member of the Bangladesh Musical Bands Association (BAMBA).

Nemesis is a Bangladeshi rock band formed in 1999 in Dhaka. They are one of the most popular rock bands in Bangladesh. The band rose to mainstream fame in the late 2000s and early 2010s with their hit songs like "Obocheton", "Kolporajjo", "Bir" and "Kobe". Since 1999, they have released three studio albums. The line-up includes vocalist Zohad Reza Chowdhury, guitarist Ifaz Abrar Reza, guitarists Sultan Rafsan Khan, bassist Raquibun Nabi Ratul and drummer Jeffery Ovijit and Dio Haque.

Tanzir Chowdhury Tuhin is a Bangladeshi musician, singer-songwriter, actor, painter, and architect, best known as a longtime member of the independent music group Shironamhin. He joined the group as lead vocalist in 2000. Shironamhin subsequently achieved national success with their albums Bondho Janala, Shironamhin Rabindranath and Shironamhin Shironamhin. By the late 2000s, they had become one of the most well-known group in the rock music history of Bangladesh. Amid personal conflict, Tuhin left Shironamhin in 2017 and form a new band named Avash at the end of that year.

The Banani graveyard is a cemetery in the Banani neighbourhood of Dhaka. It is one of eight state-run graveyards in Dhaka and with a capacity of around 22,000 graves it is one of the largest graveyards in that city. It covers an area of approximately 10 acres of land and two to three burials take place every day. Banani graveyard is the burial place of a number of notable Bangladeshis, amongst them the victims of the coup d'ètat of August 15, 1975. The graveyard was established in 1973.

Munshigiri is a Bangladeshi mystery drama film directed by Amitabh Reza Chowdhury from a script by Naseef Amin for Chorki. Based on the novel Mriterao Kotha Bole by Shibabrata Barman, it stars Chanchal Chowdhury as Masood Munshi, Dilara Hanif Purnima as Suraiya Akhter, and Sabnam Faria as Parveen Sultana. It is released via Chorki on 30 September 2021.
