G.I. Joe: Cobra is a comic book series published by IDW Publishing.
G.I. Joe: Cobra was originally a four-issue mini-series published in 2009. It details the status quo of Cobra for the continuity by IDW, as G.I. Joe member Chuckles spies on the threat. The story is written by Christos Gage and Mike Costa, and drawn by Antonio Fuso. The covers are illustrated by Howard Chaykin. [1] The plot revolves around Chuckles, the Joes' top undercover agent. He's just infiltrated Cobra, a top secret, highly organized terrorist organization. Chuckles is pulled deeper and deeper into the dark underbelly of Cobra, where one misstep means death, while he tries to pull off the ultimate deception, and bring them down from within. [2]
It was generally well received, [3] [4] and was followed by the one-issue G.I. Joe: Cobra Special, which investigates the relationship of Tomax and Xamot since the events of G.I. Joe: Cobra. [5] The Cobra Special was the recipient of the MTV award for Best One-Shot Issue of 2009. [6]
In 2010, another 4-issue miniseries, G.I. Joe: Cobra II, was published as a direct continuation of the previous Cobra miniseries and one-shot. [7] After its conclusion, the title became an ongoing series with the publication of G.I. Joe: Cobra #5, [3] which continued the storyline of Cobra II, while preserving the numbering of the original Cobra miniseries. Another one-shot was released, G.I. Joe: Cobra Special #2, which explored Erika Le Tene in her new role as the Chameleon. The ongoing series ended with #13.
G.I. Joe Cobra: Cobra Civil War started in May 2011. It starts after G.I. Joe: Cobra Civil War #0, with the previous Cobra series ending after the death of Cobra Commander. In January 2012, the series will earn an annual titled G.I. Joe: Cobra Annual 2012: The Origin of Cobra Commander, showcasing the origin of the new Cobra Commander. Also in January 2012, the series will become part of a 9-issue crossover with the other two G.I. Joe ongoing series: G.I. Joe and G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes. The crossover is titled Cobra Command.
Danger Girl is an American comic book series created by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell that started in March 1998 and is still published as a new series. Serpentor is a fictional character and a recurring antagonist from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline, comic books, and animated series. Introduced in 1986, the character rules as Emperor over Cobra where most versions are depicted as a composite clone of history's greatest leaders. Serpentor serves as the primary antagonist of the second season of the original animated series.
There have been four main publishers of the comic book series bearing the name Transformers based on the toy lines of the same name. The first series was produced by Marvel Comics from 1984 to 1991, which ran for 80 issues and produced four spin-off miniseries. This was followed by a second volume titled Transformers: Generation 2, which ran for 12 issues starting in 1993. The second major series was produced by Dreamwave Productions from 2002 to 2004 with multiple limited series as well, and within multiple story continuities, until the company became bankrupt in 2005. The third and fourth series have been published by IDW Publishing with the third series starting with an issue #0 in October 2005 and a regular series starting in January 2006 to November 2018. The fourth series started in March 2019 with issue #1 and concluded in June 2022. There are also several limited series being produced by IDW as well. Skybound Entertainment began publishing Transformers comics starting in June 2023, kicking off the Energon Universe. In addition to these four main publishers, there have also been several other smaller publishers with varying degrees of success.
G.I. Joe has been the title of comic strips and comic books in every decade since 1942. As a licensed property by Hasbro, G.I. Joe comics have been released from 1967 to present, with only two interruptions longer than a year. As a team fighting Cobra since 1982, the comic book history of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero has been covered by three separate publishers and four main-title series, all of which have been based on the Hasbro toy line of the same name.

Christos N. Gage is an American screenwriter and comic book writer. He is known for his work on the TV series Daredevil, Hawaii Five-0, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Numbers and the films The Breed and Teenage Caveman. In the comics industry, he has done considerable work on the titles Angel & Faith, Avengers Academy, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Superior Spider-Man, Spider-Geddon and has written tie-in books for the "Civil War" and "World War Hulk" storylines.
