George Bryan Slater (born March 28,1961) is an American political operative who has been tapped by Glenn Youngkin to serve as Virginia Secretary of Labor. A Republican,he managed Jim Gilmore's campaigns for Attorney General and Governor before serving as his Secretary of Administration from 1998 to 2001. [1] [2]
James Stuart Gilmore III is an American politician,statesman,diplomat,and former attorney who served as the 68th Governor of Virginia from 1998 to 2002. A member of the Republican Party,Gilmore also chaired the Republican National Committee in 2001 and served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe during the Trump administration.
Winsome Sears is an American politician serving as the 42nd lieutenant governor of Virginia. A member of the Republican Party,Sears served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2004. Businessman Glenn Youngkin won the Republican nomination at the party's May 8 convention,which was held in 37 polling locations across the state,and was officially declared the nominee on May 10. The Democratic Party held its primary election on June 8,which former Governor Terry McAuliffe easily won.

Incumbent Democratic Governor Ned Lamont ran for re-election to a second term in office. The race simultaneously took place with the election to the state's Class III Senate seat. This election featured a rematch of the previous 2018 gubernatorial election,pitting Lamont against Republican Bob Stefanowski,who he previously defeated by 3.2% of the vote. This time Lamont won re-election by a wider margin,becoming the first Democrat to win a gubernatorial election by more than 5 points in the state since 1986. This is the first time since 1994 that Tolland County voted Democratic in a gubernatorial election.

New state legislative maps took effect on January 11,2023,at the start of 2023 legislative. However,this special election took place under previous district lines. As a result of the redistricting process,the 7th district became the 22nd district in November,. Final official vote tallies were not released until January 13 because mail-in ballots were accepted after election day if postmarked for January 10. Democrat Aaron Rouse,an at-large Virginia Beach City Council member and former professional football player defeated Republican Kevin Adams,a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and small business owner.
