G. Puttaswamy Gowda (20 December 1935 - 18 August 2006) was an Indian politician and he represented Hassan in Lok Sabha the lower house of the Parliament of India. He defeated H.D. Deve Gowda, former prime minister of India in 13th Lok Sabha elections. He was a member of the Indian National Congress. [1]

Early life and background

Puttaswamy was born to Shri Patel Gidde Gowda and Smt. Sannamma on 20 December 1935, in Keragodu Hassan District of Karnataka. He completed his education Matriculate, Rashtra Bhasha Visharad from Bettadapura, Mysore District and Holenarsipura, Hassan District (Karnataka). [2]

He served as a Member and President of the Taluk Development Board. He was also Director of H.D.C.C. Bank Limited in 1975 and Director of Karnataka State Co-Operative Marketing Federation. [3]

Personal life

G. Puttaswamy Gowda married Smt. P. Shantamma on 3 May 1962. The couple has 1 son and 1daughter. [2]

Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda is an Indian politician who served as the prime minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. He was previously the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. He presently is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Karnataka. He is the national president of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. Born in a farming family, he joined the Indian National Congress party in 1953, and remained a member until 1962. His prime ministerial tenure lasted for less than a year. After his prime ministerial tenure, he was elected to the 12th (1998), 14th (2004), 15th, and 16th Lok Sabha, as Member of Parliament for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. He lost Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Tumkuru but has been elected to Rajya Sabha since.

SM Krishna had served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha from December 1989 to January 1993. He was also a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at various times from 1971 to 2014. In 2023, Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India.

Tejaswini Gowda was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha (2004–2009) from Kanakapura in Karnataka (India), representing Congress Party. This seat morphed into Bangalore (Rural) seat, and she contested from the new seat in 2009 when she came third. In March 2014 she quit INC and joined BJP. In March 2024, she resigned as the Karnataka Legislative Council member.
