GFL 1 was a planned mixed martial arts event produced by the Global Fight League originally scheduled to take place on May 24, 2025, at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California, United States. [1] [2] [3] [4] On April 9, 2025, California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster confirmed that promotion has formally canceled its debut slate of events. [5]

Background

On January 24, 2025, Global Fight League held its inaugural draft with its six teams includes Los Angeles, New York, São Paulo, London, Dubai and Miami. Selecting 20 fighters across 10 weight classes will take place the promotion. [6] The inaugural event was planned on May 24 and 25 in Los Angeles. [2]

The inaugural event was scheduled to be headlined by a bantamweight trilogy bout between former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barão. [7] [1] The pairing previously met at UFC 149 in July 2012, which Barão won the interim title by unanimous decision. [8] The second time they met was at UFC 169 in February 2014, which Barão defended the title via first round technical knockout. [9]
