Gallitos de Isabela is a professional basketball team based in Isabela, Puerto Rico. They play their home games at the José Abreu Coliseum, refurnished in 2023 in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. [1]
In 1984, the Gallitos reached the BSN Finals, during that year known, due to a scandal concerning the eligibility of a Leones de Ponce player named David Ponce to play, as the "Copa Olimpica". They lost to the defending champions, Indios de Canovanas, in six games. This was during the franchise's "golden era", when players like Edwin Pellot and Frankie Torruellas played for the Gallitos. That team was coached by American Phil Jackson, who coached the team from 1984 to 1986, leading them to the playoffs in 1984, 1985 and 1986. [2]

The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, abbreviated as BSN, is the first-tier-level professional men's basketball league in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1929 and is organized by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation.
The Leones de Ponce is a professional basketball team based in Ponce, Puerto Rico, actively participating in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league (BSN). Founded in 1946, the team has had significant success in the league, earning a total of fourteen championships. This puts them on par with the Atléticos de San Germán and just two titles short of the record held by the Vaqueros de Bayamón. Their most recent championship was won in 2015, after a final match against the Capitanes de Arecibo.

The Puerto Rican professional basketball league only holds 30 to 34 games each year; players who score over 5,000 career points there are usually considered to be among the great Puerto Rican basketball players.

He is a former head coach of Puerto Rico’s men’s national basketball team, Argentina men's national basketball team, and Panama men's national basketball team. Currently, he coaches in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional as an assistant coach for Gigantes de Carolina.

Indios de Mayagüez is a Puerto Rican professional basketball team. The team plays in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). The Indios play their home games in the Palacio de Recreación y Deportes since 1981. The franchise first entered the league in 1956, and Mayagüez has been its home city for all but five of the team's active seasons given that the franchise has gone through several hiatuses in its history. Along with the Atléticos de San Germán, the Indians have been the only BSN team permanently based in the western part of Puerto Rico, after the Tiburones de Aguadilla relocated to Santurce and became the Cangrejeros de Santurce in 1998.

Ángel Daniel Vassallo Colón is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player for Cangrejeros de Santurce of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). He has been a member of the Puerto Rico national basketball team since his teenage years, representing Puerto Rico in the 2003 FIBA World Championship for Junior Men and the 2005 FIBA U-21 World Championship. In 2008, Vassallo joined the senior team, playing at the 2008 Centrobasket, FIBA Americas Championship 2009 and 2010 FIBA World Championship.
Javier Antonio "Toñito" Colón is a retired Puerto Rican basketball player. Colón spent his entire career as a point guard for the Leones de Ponce of the BSN from 1987 to 2008. Colón led the team to five championships during his career, and is currently third on assists of all-time in the league. Colón also played for the Puerto Rico National Basketball Team from 1990 to 1999.
Santeros de Aguada is a Puerto Rican professional basketball team of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional. The team was originally based in Aguada, Puerto Rico, and although the team moved to Fajardo in 2021, even changing their name and re-branding to Cariduros de Fajardo with the move, the team was moved again to Aguada to start the 2024 season.
The Osos de Manatí are a professional basketball team based in Manatí, Puerto Rico. They play in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), the top division basketball league in Puerto Rico. Prior to 2017, the team was named Atenienses de Manatí. In October 2022 they returned from a hiatus, when Puerto Rican singer Ozuna purchased the Brujos de Guayama, and relocated the team to Manatí. The team reached its first ever BSN finals in 2024, but lost in seven games to the Criollos de Caguas.

Edwin Pellot is a Puerto Rican basketball player. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He is best known for his tenure as a player with the BSN's Gallitos de Isabela team.
Amaury Apolinar Filion Fernández is a Dominican former professional basketball player. A left-handed 2.06 m forward-center, Filion debuted in 1997 with Mauricio Báez, a club of Santo Domingo. He then moved to the United States, where he played at Artesia High School in Lakewood, California before going back to the Dominican Republic. Throughout his 20-year professional career, Filion has played in the Dominican Republic, France, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela; in 2007 he was named the LIDOBA Finals MVP. A long-time member of the Dominican national team, he won the silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games and the gold medal at the 2004 Centrobasket.
The 2024 Baloncesto Superior Nacional season is the 95th season of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN). The Gigantes de Carolina comes into the season as the defending champions, winning the 2023 BSN Finals. The regular season began on April 3, and ended on July 1. The tie-breaker and play-in game was held on July 10–12, 2024. The 2024 BSN playoffs then began on July 13.
