Baba Gambhirnath (died 1917) was an Indian Hindu saint of the Guru Gorakhnath tradition, who was known for his contributions to Yoga and knowledge. [1] [2] He served as the Peethadhishwar (head) of Gorakhnath Math, a temple of the Nath monastic order within the Nath tradition. He was revered as a great Siddhapurush (perfect man) of the 20th century within the Nath sect. He was the guru of Digvijay Nath. [3]

Life

Gambhirnath was born in a village in the Kashmir region, into a wealthy family.[ citation needed ]

It is believed that he attained perfection in all three forms of yoga. In his youth, Gambhirnath started his spiritual journey, seeking guidance from Gorakhnath Math. There, he studied under the guidance of Mahant Baba Gopaldas, who taught him yoga. He wholeheartedly dedicated himself to yoga and meditation, spending time along the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi. He meditated for a period of three years in a cave in Jhusi, Prayagraj. He did penance while staying in Amarkantak. He did spiritual practice for a long time in Kapildhara and Gaya. He conducted in-depth studies of various Hindu religious texts. He undertook a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar, where he had the opportunity to meet and seek inspiration from numerous yogis. He revived the yoga principle of the Nath Sampradaya. [1] He spent a third of his time in Bengal and made a large number of disciples. [4]

Gambhirnath died on March 21, 1917. His Samadhi temple is built within the premises of Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur. [2]

Legacy

The postal department of the Indian government issued a special cover in April 2016 to commemorate the centenary year of the death anniversary of Gambhirnath. [5] Ward number 5 of Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation is officially named after Baba Gambhirnath. [3]

The Government of Uttar Pradesh, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has established a state-of-the-art auditorium and cultural center in the Gorakhpur district. This cultural center is named after Gambhirnath, known as the Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium and Cultural Centre, which is under the management of the state's Department of Culture. It features state-of-the-art facilities, including two auditoriums, providing a platform for various cultural activities and events. [6] [7]

A biography titled Aadarsh Yogi: Shri Shri Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath was written in the Bengali language by Akshay Banerjee. It was launched in April 2016. [8] The Hindi textbook for the 7th standard in the Uttar Pradesh State Board of High School and Intermediate Education includes a chapter that covers Gambhirnath. [9]

Mahant Digvijaynath was the mahant, of the Gorakhnath Math in Gorakhpur, India. He was also a Hindu nationalist activist and a politician of the Hindu Mahasabha, who was arrested for inflaming passions among Hindus against Mahatma Gandhi. Nath played a leading role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement in 1949, which culminated in the appearance of Rama idols inside the Babri Masjid, in an effort to revive the Hindu Mahasabha after its implication in the Gandhi assassination. Nath was elected as the MP for Gorakhpur in 1967 on a Hindu Mahasabha ticket.

Mahant Balaknath Yogi better known as Baba Balaknath, is an Indian politician and current MLA from Tijara constituency in Rajasthan. He is Chancellor of the Baba Mastnath University (BMU), Rohtak, Haryana. He is also 8th Mahant of the Nath sect of Hinduism. On 29 July 2016, Mahant Chandnath declared Balaknath Yogi as his successor in a ceremony which was attended by Yogi Adityanath and Baba Ramdev.

Baba Mastnath was a Hindu saint. He was born in Kisrenti village in Rohtak district in the Indian state of Haryana. His father named Sabla belongs to Rebari Hindu community. He is a reincarnation of Guru Gorakhnath. He moved to Math Asthal Bohar. He rejuvenated it and resurrected the Math. In 2012 his seventh disciple Mahant Chandnath established Baba Mastnath University in his name. Maharaja was present in his five-physical elements for a hundred years. In his time, the monarchy of Delhi was weakening as a result of the religious fanaticism of Aurangzeb, the independence of the Subedars, the destruction of the foreign invasions and the conspiracy to take away the traditional political power of the European companies. The provinces of Punjab, Haryana etc. were getting dilapidated. Guru Chauranginath meditated by enlightening continuous fire is known as Dhuna for twelve years.

Rakesh Rathore alias Guru, alternatively Rakesh Rathour is an Indian politician representing Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh Assembly constituency since 2022. He is a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. Rathore won in 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. He was a car mechanic who had the same name as the previous MLA Rakesh Rathore. The previous MLA fell into controversy with the Yogi Adityanath government after audio clips were leaked of his private conversations in which he was being extremely critical and harsh on the government after which Rakesh Rathour was found and made his replacement.
