Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is co-founder, leader, guitarist, secondary lead vocalist and principal songwriter of the Who, one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s and 1970s.
Canned Heat is an American blues and rock band that was formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The group has been noted for its efforts to promote interest in blues music and its original artists. It was launched by two blues enthusiasts Alan Wilson and Bob Hite, who took the name from Tommy Johnson's 1928 "Canned Heat Blues", a song about an alcoholic who had desperately turned to drinking Sterno, generically called "canned heat", from the original 1914 product name Sterno Canned Heat, After appearances at the Monterey and Woodstock festivals at the end of the 1960s, the band acquired worldwide fame with a lineup consisting of Hite (vocals), Wilson, Henry Vestine and later Harvey Mandel, Larry Taylor (bass), and Adolfo de la Parra (drums).
John Anthony Frusciante is an American musician and the guitarist of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, with whom he has recorded five studio albums. He has released 12 solo albums and seven EPs.
David Michael Navarro is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor, and television personality. He is a member of rock band Jane's Addiction and played guitar for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their 1995 album One Hot Minute. He has also released one solo album, Trust No One (2001). Navarro has also been a member of the Jane's Addiction spin-off bands Deconstruction and The Panic Channel.
Bongzilla is an American stoner metal band that formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1995. They released their debut extended play, Mixed Bag, the following year through Rhetoric Records. Much of Bongzilla's lyrics are centered around cannabis use and similar themes. Following a six-year hiatus, the band reformed in 2015 and embarked upon a North American tour. The band's most recent album, Weedsconsin, was released in 2021 through the label Heavy Psyched Sounds. Weedsconsin was Bongzilla's first new release in sixteen years.
One Hot Minute is the sixth studio album by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on September 12, 1995 by Warner Bros. Records. The worldwide success of the band's previous album Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991) caused guitarist John Frusciante to become uncomfortable with their popularity, eventually quitting mid-tour in 1992. Vocalist Anthony Kiedis, who had resumed addictions to cocaine and heroin in 1994 after being sober for more than five years, approached his lyricism with a reflective outlook on drugs and their harsh effects. It is the only studio album to feature Dave Navarro as the band's guitarist; Navarro joined the band in 1993 after a series of short-term replacements for Frusciante. The album was produced by Rick Rubin, who had also produced the band's previous album.

Sludge metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that originated through combining elements of doom metal and hardcore punk. It is typically harsh and abrasive, often featuring shouted vocals, heavily distorted instruments and sharply contrasting tempos. The Melvins from the US state of Washington produced the first sludge metal albums in the mid-late 1980s.

The gateway drug effect is a comprehensive catchphrase for the often observed effect that the use of a psychoactive substance is coupled to an increased probability of the use of further substances. Possible causes are biological alterations in the brain due to the earlier substance exposure and similar attitudes of people who use different substances across different substances. In 2020, the National Institute on Drug Abuse released a study backing allegations that marijuana is a "gateway" to more dangerous substance use, though not for the majority of people who use substances.

"Heroin" is a song by the Velvet Underground, released on their 1967 debut album The Velvet Underground & Nico. Written by Lou Reed in 1964, the song, which overtly depicts heroin use and abuse, is one of the band's most celebrated compositions. Critic Mark Deming of Allmusic writes, "While 'Heroin' hardly endorses drug use, it doesn't clearly condemn it, either, which made it all the more troubling in the eyes of many listeners." In 2004, it was ranked at number 448 on Rolling Stone's list of "the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and was re-ranked at number 455 in 2010.
Amerijuanican is the fourth full-length album by stoner metal band Bongzilla. It was released in September 2005 by Relapse Records. The album title is a portmanteau of the words "American" and "marijuana". It is the band's only album to feature "Dixie" Dave Collins on bass. The song "Champagne & Reefer" is a cover of blues legend Muddy Waters.
The Cult is the sixth studio album from English rock band, The Cult. It was released in October 1994 on Beggars Banquet Records and it is also the band's last album on Sire Records in the US. It is also commonly referred to as the "Black Sheep" record, due to the image of a Manx Loaghtan black sheep on the front cover.
