Gaumee Itthihaad, (English: National Unity Party) or GIP, was a political party in the Maldives headed by Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan, former President of Maldives, and the first Vice President of Maldives. The party was a generally pragmatic, and was part of the coalition including the former ruling party for the Republic of Maldives.[ which? ] Under the coalition agreement with the Maldivian Democratic Party, the GIP were awarded three seats in the cabinet; the Fisheries Ministry, the Education Ministry, and the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade, [1] although these positions were revoked by the then-President in contravention of the coalition agreement. Foreign relations of the Maldives

The Maldives has remained an independent nation throughout its recorded history, save for a brief spell of Portuguese occupation in the mid-16th century. From 1887 to 1965, the country was a British protectorate while retaining full internal sovereignty. At its independence in 1965, the Maldives joined the United Nations on 20 September.

The Constitution of the Maldives is the supreme law of the country of Maldives. It provides the legal foundation for the existence of the Republic of Maldives, sets out the rights and duties of the citizens of Maldives, and defines the structure of the Government of the Maldives. The current Constitution of Maldives was ratified by President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom on 7 August 2008, and came into effect immediately, replacing and repealing the Constitution of 1998.

Ahmed Shaheed

Ahmed Shaheed is a Maldivian diplomat and politician. On 24 March 2016, he was appointed for the sixth year running as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Dr Shaheed is also the Chairperson of the Geneva-based international human rights think-tank, Universal Rights Group, which was launched in January 2014.

Ameen Faisal is the former National Security Advisor and former Minister of Defence and National Security of the Republic of Maldives.

Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim

Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim is a Maldivian politician. He was an official in the Ministry of Atolls Development from 1990 to 2004, then a member of the Special Majilis (parliament) representing A.DH Atoll from 2004 to 2008. Between 2008 and 2013 he was deputy minister or minister of state for Immigration and Emigration, Housing and Environment, and then Defense and National Security.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs is a government agency of the Republic of Maldives, handling the country's religious affairs. It was previously known as Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and was constituted by the president of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in 1996. The institution was renamed in November 2008, by the president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs' mandate is established by Constitution of Maldives.

The Cabinet of the Maldives is the most senior level of the executive branch of the Government of the Maldives. It is made up of the President, the Vice-President, Attorney General and the Ministers.

Progressive Party of Maldives Political party in the Maldives

The Progressive Party of Maldives, also known by its abbreviationPPM, is an Islamist political party in Maldives with a total membership of 1500 as of 30 June 2018. The stated goal of the party is driving Maldives towards an independent and democratic, safe and secure, high income, high human capital, developed nation state with a diversified and robust economy whilst preserving its Islamic heritage.

Finnish municipal election, 2012 was held in Finland on 28 October with advance voting between 17 and 23 October 2012. 9,674 municipal council seats were open for election in 304 municipalities. The number of councillors decreased by over 700 compared to the previous election due to the merging of several municipalities. The term of the elected councillors will begin on 1 January 2013.

Parliamentary elections were held in Moldova on 30 November 2014. The result was described as "more a loss than a victory" of the incumbent pro-European coalition, with center-right parties divided by sharp tensions. The pro-Russian Party of Socialists (PSRM), composed of former communists, emerged as the largest party in Parliament, gaining 20.51% of votes and winning 25 of the 101 seats. The Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM), previously the largest party, dropped from 38 to 21 seats.

China–Maldives relations Bilateral relations

China–Maldives relations refer to foreign relations between China and the Maldives. China has an embassy in Malé which opened in November 2011 and the Maldives has an embassy in Beijing which opened in 2009. Diplomatic relations were established in 1972.
