Geet is an Indian motivational speaker, educator, social activist and former lawyer. [1] She rose to prominence through social media platforms, and gained popularity on the platforms TikTok and Facebook. [2]
Geet was born in Delhi to a traditional Indian family and was raised in Seattle, Washington, United States. She suffered a major spinal cord injury at the age of 10 in a car accident which left her paralysed. [3] She had initially dreamt of becoming a film actress, but the accident seemed to have dashed those hopes. However, despite her disability, she took part in a reality television show called India's Best Cinestars Ki Khoj on Zee TV. While she did not make it to the final round, she gained the confidence to reignite her dreams of acting.[ citation needed ]
Having studied engineering and obtained a doctorate degree in law, Geet worked as a practising lawyer in a law firm in the US before moving to New Delhi with her parents to engage in social service. Quitting her job as a lawyer before the move, she started up an NGO in India focused on helping slum children. [3]
In August 2015, she started posting inspirational motivational stories through her official Facebook account, before venturing into other social media platforms. [4] Geet opened her official TikTok account in February 2019, and started making 15-second videos related to relationships, love, and life. [5] [6] She goes by the name Geet on TikTok. [7] She also started to teach spoken American English to her followers through one of the channels on her TikTok account during the lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. In June 2020, the Indian government banned the use of TikTok in the country due to ongoing tensions with China. As of December 2020, Geet is no longer active on the platform. However, She is active on other social platforms like YouTube and Facebook. [11] [12]
Internet censorship in India is done by both central and state governments. DNS filtering and educating service users in suggested usages is an active strategy and government policy to regulate and block access to Internet content on a large scale. Measures for removing content at the request of content creators through court orders have also become more common in recent years. Initiating a mass surveillance government project like Golden Shield Project is an alternative that has been discussed over the years by government bodies.

SHAREit was developed as part of Lenovo at its initial stage but was later spun off and operated under a separate Singapore based technology company Smart Technology Pte. Ltd.

Zynn was a Chinese video-sharing social networking service owned by Kuaishou, a Beijing-based internet technology company established in 2011 by Su Hua and Cheng Yixiao. It was used to create and share short videos, and it pays its users for using the app and referring others. Zynn was launched on May 7, 2020. It became the most-downloaded app in the App Store in the same month. It has also been criticized for being a "pyramid scheme", and it has faced accusations of plagiarism and stealing content. Aside from Zynn in North America, Kuaishou is available under the name Kwai in Russia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, America, India, and the Middle East. Kwai used to be available in Australia and the United States on the App Store, but was removed at an unknown date. Zynn was permanently shut down on the 20th of August, 2021.

It initially operated as a video editing app before adding social networking features.

Other bans have cited children's well-being and offensive content such as pornography.

Josh is an Indian short video app that was launched in immediately after the Indian Government banned TikTok and other Chinese apps in June 2020. The founders of the platform have promoted the app as the “Instagram for Bharat” referring to their focus on the Indian audience that speaks its own regional and state languages. Josh was among the top 10 most downloaded apps social and entertainment apps in India of 2021 and had 150 million monthly active users as per April 2022.
