The modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport consisting of fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, pistol shooting, and cross country running. The event was first held in 1912, inspired by the traditional pentathlon held during the ancient Olympics, and designed to model skills needed by a soldier of that time. As well as being an Olympic event, a world championships has been held annually since 1949.
Aya Medany is an Egyptian modern pentathlete. She made her Olympic début at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, as the youngest competitor both in the Egyptian team and competing in the pentathlon.
Chloe Hosking is Australian professional racing cyclist. She holds the record for the most professional wins for an Australian woman with 39 professional wins in her career. Hosking has represented Australia at junior and then senior levels since 2007. Following success in a number of international events she turned professional in 2010. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, and won the women's road race at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The 2011 World Modern Penthathlon Championship was held in Moscow, Russia from September 8 to September 14, 2011. The event was supposed to take place in Cairo but because of the 2011 Egyptian revolution it was moved to avoid any further political instability. The event includes pistol shooting, fencing, 200m swimming, show jumping and a 3 km run. For the first time laser pistols were used.
The modern pentathlon at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was held from 11 to 12 August 2012. The men's and women's events each involved 36 athletes. The venues for the events were the Copper Box (fencing), the Aquatics Centre (swimming), and Greenwich Park.
Reinardt Janse van Rensburg is a South African professional road bicycle racer, who currently rides for UCI Continental team China Glory–Mentech Continental Cycling Team. A two-time winner of the South African National Road Race Championships, Janse van Rensburg has competed professionally since 2010, having rode for Giant–Shimano (2013–2014), Team Qhubeka NextHash, and Lotto–Soudal (2022).
Chloe Esposito is an Australian shooter and modern pentathlon competitor. She competed at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in the 10 m air pistol. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, London, in the modern pentathlon and won the gold medal in the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Rio de Janeiro.
Jacques Janse van Rensburg is a South African racing cyclist, who rides for South African amateur team TEG Pro Cycling Team. In 2015, he won the South African National Road Race Championships.
Katherine Elizabeth French is a British modern pentathlete who won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Max Esposito is an Australian modern pentathlete. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's event. He was the youngest athlete in the race and finished seventh. Esposito has also competed in one Youth Olympic Games and one World Modern Pentathlon Championships.

Jennifer Janse van Rensburg is a German ice dancer. With her skating partner, Benjamin Steffan, she is the 2020 Santa Claus Cup champion, the 2021 Egna Dance Trophy silver medalist, a three-time Bavarian Open champion (2022-24), and three time German national champions (2022-2024).

Joanna Muir is a British modern pentathlete, who was part of the British squad that won the team event at the 2019 European Modern Pentathlon Championships, and came second in the women's relay event at the 2016 World Modern Pentathlon Championships. She came second at the opening event of the 2021 Modern Pentathlon World Cup. Muir competed in the modern pentathlon event at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics.
Sophia Frances Morgan is a Fijian sailor, who came second in the Women's Laser Radial team event at the 2019 Pacific Games, and the individual and team events at the 2023 Pacific Games. She competed in the laser radial event at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics, and has qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Australia is scheduled to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Australian athletes have appeared in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era, alongside France, Great Britain, Greece, and Switzerland. As Brisbane will stage the 2032 Summer Olympics, Australia and the United States, the next nation to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, will march before the homebound French team enters Place du Trocadéro during the parade of nations segment of the opening ceremony.
The modern pentathlon at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is scheduled to take place from 8 to 11 August 2024 at the Palace of Versailles and the North Paris Arena. The Palace of Versailles will host all the modern pentathlon events, excluding the fencing ranking rounds which will occur at the North Paris Arena. Two events will be contested, one for men and another for women.
Egypt is scheduled to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Since the nation's debut in 1912, Egyptian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games except for two occasions: the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles because of the worldwide Great Depression and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, as part of the United States-led boycott.
