History

George Ochoa began his musical career with the band Prophet. Ochoa was a part of the band alongside Dion Sanchez and Roger Martinez who would become parts of Recon and Vengeance Rising respectively. [4] Prophet recorded a single demo before changing their name DeRoque. [5] After a brief stint with DeRoque, Ochoa departed. [5]

Ochoa began the power metal band, Recon with Rey Parra (Sacred Warrior). [6] Recon went on for a few years until 1990. Before Recon disbanded, Ochoa joined the thrash metal band, Deliverance. [7] and recorded on the most influential of the Deliverance discography, Weapons of Our Warfare in 1990 and What a Joke in 1991. He left the band in 1991 after the recording of What a Joke.

Ochoa then went on to perform with Vengeance Rising as a live guitarist in 1992. The band only had two official members at that time, vocalist Roger Martinez and drummer Johnny Vasquez. He performed with them until the band disbanded later that year. In 1994, Ochoa seemingly reunited Recon, however, it appeared that nothing came of the reunion. [8] The same year, Ochoa resurfaced with Mortification, the Australian death metal, on their album Primitive Rhythm Machine in 1995 as their guitarist and keyboardist. In 1996, Ochoa left the band.

In 2001, Recon reunited for the second time for a performance at the Cornerstone Festival, with Ochoa returned, being one of three original members. In 2002, Ochoa formed a modern rock band with former Vengeance members, Larry Farkas and Glen Mancaruso, called S.A.L.T.. However, S.A.L.T. disbanded in 2004. Ochoa remained musically silent until 2010. In 2010, Ochoa played with Jimmy P. Brown II's side-project Jupiter VI. [9] In 2013, Ochoa formed a supergroup with Rey Parra, Johnny Gonzales, and Todd Libby. [10]

Ochoa later on re-joined Deliverance several years later in 2014 with Victor Macias and Jim Chaffin. [7] In 2017, it was announced that Ochoa had departed from Deliverance yet a second time, being replaced by Glenn Rogers, who had originally been replaced by Ochoa. [11] [12]

Vengeance Rising was an American Christian thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Fronted by vocalist Roger Martinez, they originally formed as Vengeance in 1987, but changed their name in 1989 to avoid conflict with another band from the Netherlands. Band members Larry Farkas, Doug Thieme, Roger Dale Martin, and Glen Mancaruso left following Once Dead and formed the band Die Happy. Roger Martinez stayed on to record two more studio albums, but aside from him, Vengeance Rising's lineup changed for each subsequent album. While the group was a ground breaking Christian metal band, today Vengeance Rising is known for vocalist Martinez's turning from Christianity to Satanism to atheism. AllMusic describes Vengeance Rising's history as "one of the most entertaining and bizarre stories in the realm of heavy metal."

Intense Records was an independent record label whose releases were mostly in the metal genre. Intense was bought out in 1989 by Frontline Records and became an imprint of that company. The bands in their roster were some of the premiere Christian metal bands of the 1990s.

<i>Scrolls of the Megilloth</i> 1992 studio album by Mortification

Scrolls of the Megilloth is the second studio album by Australian Christian death metal band Mortification. It was released on 28 August 1992. The band's most famous release, this album is full-on death metal, with the thrash metal roots barely showing, and possibly their most extreme album to date. According to AllMusic, the album "garnered the band some attention from the heavy metal underground" and contains "some of the most frightening vocals ever recorded." In 2010, HM Magazine ranked Scrolls of the Megilloth number 17 on the Top 100 Christian Metal Albums of All Time list with Van Pelt stating that "Though the band has been living it down ever since, this album raised the standard of Christian grindcore to almost unattainable levels."

Stephen Andrew Rowe is an Australian musician who is the founder, bass guitarist, and vocalist of the Australian Christian death metal band Mortification, which is considered to be a pioneer in the genre. Prior to forming Mortification he was in a traditional heavy metal styled Christian band known as LightForce. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 1997, but made a full recovery. He is currently the owner and head of the Rowe Productions record label. In 2015, Rowe announced his retirement from Christian music. However, his career has continued, while Mortification has been inactive the members' side project, Wonrowe Vision, have remained active.

Die Happy was an American Christian rock band. The group was formed in 1990 when Vengeance Rising members Larry Farkas, Doug Thieme, Glen Mancaruso, and Roger Dale Martin split the band, citing unrest with that band's front man and vocalist, Roger Martinez. They hired Robyn Kyle Basauri, formerly of Jaguar, as a vocalist and he officially joined the band after the release of their eponymous debut.

Sacred Warrior is a Christian heavy metal band formed in 1988 and based in Chicago, Illinois. Their music is often compared to that of Queensrÿche or Iron Maiden.

Human Sacrifice is the first studio album by the Christian death and thrash metal band Vengeance Rising. It is the first full-length Christian thrash metal album as it was released in 1988. Though controversial, Human Sacrifice and the following album, Once Dead were huge successes in the world of Christian music, making Vengeance Rising one of the few bands in the genre to cross over into the secular music scene. Dave Caughney of Cross Rhythms magazine wrote in 1990 that this "legendary classic debut [...] breathed much needed freshness into the somewhat stale white metal scene". HM Magazine editor Doug Van Pelt called Human Sacrifice "the most radical Christian album ever released". Destruction Comes is the third album by Vengeance Rising released in 1991. The album was the first album to not feature any members of the original members other than Vocalist Roger Martinez, who recorded Bass and Rhythm Guitar. The other members that were on the album were Derek Sean, who recorded Guitars on Mortification's self titled album, and Chris Hyde, former drummer of Deliverance and Holy Soldier. The album was re-released on Intense Millennium Records in 2011.

Released Upon the Earth is the fourth album of the thrash metal band, Vengeance Rising. The album was later re-released in 2015, remastered and expanded. The only official members of the band at this point were founder Roger Martinez and new drummer Johnny Vasquez, who would later play with Mortification, when they first came to America, Tooth n’ Nail recording artists The Blamed, and Time Spent Burning Alongside Vasquez, on this album, Steve Rowe performed guest vocals on the track "Tion"

The Subversive Kind is the eleventh studio album released by the metal band, Deliverance. The album was originally not going to happen, as the band had announced back in 2013 that Hear What I Say! would be the final release.

Bill Metoyer is an American record producer who has recorded with Slayer, Deliverance, Hirax, Morbid Angel, Trouble and Tourniquet. He has worked at Metal Blade Records for several years as house producer and currently works as A&R. He also works with Alpha Omega Management as A&R as well. Metoyer formed Skull Seven Productions.
