Jim Chaffin is an American musician. He is the original drummer for the Crucified and Fasedown and has played with many other acts, such as Deliverance, the Blamed and Left Out.
Jim Chaffin was born in Madera, California and began playing drums at the age of 12 and shows at the age of 15. [1] [2] Chaffin started his musical career in the Christian hardcore band, the Crucified. Chaffin founded the band along Guitarist Greg Minier, Bassist Kirk Palmer, and Vocalist Wayne Stonecipher in Fresno, California. [3] The band formed in 1984 as K.G.B. Before the band changed their name to the Crucified, Lead Vocalist Wayne Stonecipher left the band and was replaced by Mark Salomon.
The name, the Crucified, came from Chaffin thinking of random names that would fit a Christian band. The Crucified added "For I have been crucified with Christ, therefore I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." [4] to their name whenever they wrote it. Soon after, in 1986, bassist Kirk Palmer quit the band and was replaced by his brother Trevor. Trevor Palmer quit the band in 1988 and was replaced by Mark Johnson. The band recorded their debut self-titled album in 1988 and was released in 1989, before Johnson was fired from the band. Jeff Bellew was then recruited. Chaffin joined the Christian Thrash Metal band Deliverance in 1990 when original drummer Chris Hyde left the band, filling in until former Recon drummer John Christianson joined the band. The Crucified recorded their second album, The Pillars of Humanity in 1991. The band disbanded in 1993, and played a reunion/final show on the Cornerstone Festival 1995 bill.
Before the Crucified's reunion show, Bryan Gray hired Chaffin to perform drums with the Blamed, a punk band out of California. The two had met during their respective tenure as touring musicians for Mortal and recording on their entry in the Intense Live Series . [5] With Chaffin, they recorded 21, Frail, and two other albums before he departed in 1999. Chaffin took this time to focus on his other projects, including Fasedown and Left Out. Chaffin played drums on Left Out's Pride Kills album, another project of Gray's.
Fasedown re-formed in 1998 when Chaffin and lead guitarist Mike Phillips, got together with some ideas to bring a heavy style of music to the scene with a Christ-centered message. In 1999 frontman Devin Shaeffer was asked to officially join the band. [6] After a short break, the band self-released their second album Blitz of Anguish. In 2006, after their release of the DVD, Return with a Vengeance, Chaffin joined the band Once Dead on drums. [7]
In 2007, the band decided to call it quits while Jim and Devin going to Once Dead, writing the album Visions of Hell. [6] In 2007, Once Dead started recording their album Visions of Hell with Chaffin on drums. The album didn't get released until 2008, due to the band's lead guitarist, Larry Farkas, leaving in the final process of recording. [8] In 2009, Fasedown reconvened to discuss the idea of a reunion. They have been inactive since 2011. [6]
In 2009, the Crucified reunited and released a compilation on Tooth & Nail Records. [9] Chaffin was only in Deliverance for a brief time, but later rejoined in 2014 as a part of a new lineup. [10] The lineup included founder, vocalist and guitarist Jimmy P. Brown II, guitarist George Ochoa, and bassist Victor Máciás. [10] The band began writing and recording their new album, The Subversive Kind , which Chaffin, Brown and Macias wrote primarily. Ochoa departed from the band, being replaced by Glenn Rogers. However, Minier, Chaffin's former bandmate, recorded some of the solos on the album.
As of 2014 he was playing with the Satire, but would depart in 2018, as he claimed it was not a natural fit. [11]
In 2016, the Blamed reunited after breaking up in 2002, with Chaffin returning, alongside Gray, Sid Doffour, Jeff Locke, and Wiley Willis. [11] With the lineup, they performed at Audiofeed Festival and began to write a new album. However, Willis would depart from the band, with Gray returning to vocals as the primary vocalist. [11] In 2018, the band released a split with the Satire. In 2019, they released an album, The Church Is Hurting People, which would be Chaffin's fifth album with the band. [11]
Chaffin is married to Stacy Chaffin and has three children and one grandchild. He currently resides in Fresno, California. [12]

Corrosion of Conformity is an American heavy metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina, formed in 1982. The band has undergone multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with guitarist Woody Weatherman as the sole constant member. Weatherman, founding bassist Mike Dean, founding drummer Reed Mullin and vocalist/guitarist Pepper Keenan are widely regarded as its 'classic' lineup. After a hiatus in 2006, Corrosion of Conformity returned in 2010 without Keenan, who had been busy touring and recording with Down, but announced their reunion with him in December 2014.

During their initial 1984–1993 tenure, the band played at the Cornerstone Festival several times, and also opened for non-religious punk and metal bands like D.R.I. and Pantera. The band broke up in 1993 due to personal differences, but reunited in 2009.
Deliverance is an American Christian thrash metal band which later shifted more towards heavy metal and progressive metal. Founded by Jimmy P. Brown II in 1985, many members have either stayed in the lineup for a number of years, or left and returned to the lineup. Jimmy P. Brown II has been the only constant member of Deliverance.

Die Happy was an American Christian rock band. The group was formed in 1990 when Vengeance Rising members Larry Farkas, Doug Thieme, Glen Mancaruso, and Roger Dale Martin split the band, citing unrest with that band's front man and vocalist, Roger Martinez. They hired Robyn Kyle Basauri, formerly of Jaguar, as a vocalist and he officially joined the band after the release of their eponymous debut.
Mortal was a Christian industrial/dance band fronted by Jerome Fontamillas and Jyro Xhan. Both members went on to found the alternative rock group Fold Zandura, and for a time were members of both bands simultaneously. The band is known for its lyrical intelligence, incorporating advanced theology with what has been billed as "Industrial Praise and Worship." According to CCM Magazine "Mortal has had a much greater influence... on industrial music than its modest output would suggest."
Defiance is an American thrash metal band from Oakland, California. They played a technical style of thrash originally evoking bands like Testament, though they would later move on to playing in their own unique, more progressive thrash style. After dissolving in 1995, they reformed in 2005 and released their fourth studio album The Prophecy in late 2009. They broke up once again in 2012, but announced yet another reunion in September 2019.

The Blamed is an American Christian hardcore punk band currently based out of Chicago. During their tenure they have played primarily hardcore punk, pop punk, punk rock, and emo music with some influences from metal as well. They originally are from California having relocated to Illinois after guitarist Bryan Gray moved to Chicago. The band originally formed in 1994 and disbanded in 2003. Members during this era of the band included Bryan Gray, Christopher Wiitala, Trevor Wiitala, Jeff Locke, Jim Chaffin, John Hansen, and Matt Switaj. They have released three albums, with Tooth & Nail Records, 21 in 1994, Frail in 1996, and Give Us Barabbas in 2002. The band released four albums, with Grrr Records, ...Again in 1998, Forever in 1999, Germany in 2000, and Isolated Incident in 2001. The band reformed in the summer of 2016 to play a one-off set at Audio Feed music festival. This has since lead to the band reforming and recording a split EP with the Chicago hardcore band The Satire, a band sharing multiple members with the Blamed. The split EP was released in November 2018 through Indivision Music.
The Sacrificed is an American Christian metal band who primarily play a power metal and progressive metal music. They come from Lakeland, Florida, where they started making music in 2005, with frontman Eli Prinsen. They released two studio albums, 2012 in 2010 and III in 2012, both with Roxx Productions.
Fasedown are a Christian hardcore band from Fresno, California, that formed in late 1998. Members have also been in Once Dead, The Blamed, Deliverance, The Sacrificed, and many more. In 2015 vocalist Devin Shaffer had "throat setbacks" according to HM Magazine.
Focused was a hardcore punk band that originated out of Long Beach, California in 1991, with a Christian hardcore style. The band broke up in 1996, but reunited briefly in 2009.

Bryan Gray is an American musician that has predominately performed with bands in the punk rock and hardcore punk genre, including and most notably, the Blamed, Blenderhead, Left Out, The Satire, and Rocks in Pink Cement. He also has performed in the hardcore band Six Feet Deep. Gray was best known for being the brainchild of The Blamed, which is known for their tenure on Tooth & Nail Records. He also has performed with industrial metal bands such as Mortal and Klank.
Klank, also stylized as kLaNk or KLANK, is an American industrial metal band that originated out of Long Island, New York in December 1993. The project began after Daren Diolosa, the brainchild of Klank, departed from the fellow industrial band Circle of Dust. Diolosa carried the project as a solo project until around 1997, when he began performing live. Following the live performances, Pat Servedio joined as a full-time member, with Diolosa and Servedio joining as a team. The band would go through many members, eventually settling on the lineup of Diolosa, Servedio, and former Every Day Life drummer Eric Wilkins.
