George Washington Carver School District was a majority-black school district in Royal Oak Township, Michigan.

Michigan is a state in the Great Lakes and Midwestern regions of the United States. Its name originates from the Ojibwe word mishigamaa, meaning "large water" or "large lake". With a population of about 10 million, Michigan is the tenth most populous of the 50 United States, with the 11th most extensive total area, and is the largest state by total area east of the Mississippi River. Its capital is Lansing, and its largest city is Detroit. Metro Detroit is among the nation's most populous and largest metropolitan economies.

It separated from the Clinton School District in 1945 as more African-Americans moved to the area. In 1960 Governor of Michigan G. Mennen Williams consolidated the Carver School District, along with its elementary school, into the Oak Park School District because the Carver district no longer had sufficient taxes to pay for a senior high school services,^[1] and no area school districts voluntarily took its students for high school. In 1959 Detroit Public Schools (DPS) stopped accepting high school students from Carver because Carver owed DPS $125,053.67 ($1059087.83 according to inflation) in tuition and because DPS's own schools became overcrowded. At the time 24 teenagers at the 9th grade level resided in the Carver district.^[2]

The current governor is Gretchen Whitmer, a member of the Democratic Party, who was inaugurated on January 1, 2019, as the state's 49th governor. She is eligible for a second term under Michigan's term limits, which limit a governor to only two, four-year terms.

Gerhard Mennen "Soapy" Williams was the 41st Governor of Michigan, elected in 1948 and serving six two-year terms in office. He later served as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson and Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.

The Oak Park School District is a school district headquartered in Oak Park, Michigan in Metro Detroit. The district serves most of Oak Park, portions of Southfield, and half of Royal Oak Township.

Carver is a magnet school and is a part of the Aldine Independent School District.
