The team is based in Mannheim, a city in the northern part of Baden-Württemberg. Currently, the team plays at SAP Arena, where they moved to at the beginning of the 2005–06 season after having played at Eisstadion am Friedrichspark for nearly seven decades from 1938 through 2005. The 2002–03 DFB-Pokal was the 60th season of the annual German football cup competition. Sixty-four teams competed in the tournament of six rounds which began on 28 August 2002 and ended on 31 May 2003. In the final, Bayern Munich defeated 1. FC Kaiserslautern 3–1, thereby claiming their 11th title.

The 1972–73 DFB-Pokal was the 30th season of the annual German football cup competition. It began on 10 December 1972 and ended on 23 June 1973. 32 teams competed in the tournament of five rounds. As in the year before, the knock-out rounds were played over two legs, but the final was decided in a single game. In the memorable cup final, Borussia Mönchengladbach defeated 1. FC Köln 2–1 after extra time, with Günter Netzer substituting himself in before scoring the winning goal for Borussia.

Paul Beraldo is a retired Italian Canadian professional ice hockey centre. He was selected 139th overall in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. He played a total of ten games for the Bruins during the 1987–88 and 1988–89 seasons.

The 1939 Tschammerpokal was the 5th season of the annual German football cup competition. In the final which was held on 28 April 1940 in the Olympiastadion 1. FC Nürnberg defeated Waldhof Mannheim 2–0, thereby becoming the first club to win the cup twice.

The 1943 Tschammerpokal was the 9th season of the annual German football cup competition. It was the last time the tournament was held. After the war it was reconstituted as the DFB-Pokal. 32 teams competed in the final tournament stage of five rounds. In the final held on 31 October 1943 in the Adolf-Hitler-Kampfbahn (Stuttgart) First Vienna FC defeated LSV Hamburg 3–2 after extra time.

2009–10 DEL season Sports season

The 2009–10 Deutsche Eishockey Liga season is the 16th season since the founding of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Prior to the season, the Füchse Duisburg voluntarily left the league due to financial hardship. Bietigheim Steelers, champions of the 2. Bundesliga had an opportunity to join the league, but canceled their licensing application.

The 1997 DFB-Supercup, known as the Panasonic DFB-Supercup for sponsorship purposes, was the tenth DFB-Supercup, an annual football match contested by the winners of the previous season's Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal competitions. It was the last DFB-Supercup, with the competition replaced by a DFB-Ligapokal which ran from 1997 to 2007. The supercup returned in 2010, now run by the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL).
