The Slovenian Ice Hockey Cup is the national ice hockey cup in Slovenia.

History

Initially, during the 1990s, the Slovenian Cup was awarded to the best team in the first part of the Slovenian Ice Hockey League season. [1] In the 1999–2000 season, the cup was contested for the first time as a single-elimination tournament. However, the final four, which was scheduled to be played at the new Zalog Arena in Ljubljana, was not held. [1] Instead, the winner was declared during the Rudi Hiti Summer League, an annual ice hockey tournament, and was contested by Olimpija and HK Jesenice. [1] The first official and completed season as recognized by the Ice Hockey Federation of Slovenia was contested during the 2015–16 season, and was won by Olimpija. [1] In the next season, the final between Olimpija and HDD Jesenice was not played due to scheduling conflicts. [2]

They are members of the Alps Hockey League and the Slovenian Ice Hockey League. HDD Jesenice was founded in 2014. The club replaced a temporary team called Team Jesenice, which was established in 2013. HDD Jesenice previously competed in the Inter-National League from 2014 to 2016, before the league merged into the Alps Hockey League. The club won their first Slovenian Championship in the 2014–15 season and as a result qualified for the 2015–16 IIHF Continental Cup. Their home arena is Podmežakla Hall.

The 2017 Slovenian Football Cup final was the final match of the 2016–17 Slovenian Football Cup to decide the winner of the 26th edition of the Slovenian Football Cup, Slovenia's top knockout tournament. It was played on 31 May 2017 at Bonifika Stadium in Koper and was won by Domžale, who defeated Olimpija Ljubljana, winning their second cup title.

The 2017–18 season was the 58th season in the history of Nogometni klub Maribor. It began on 1 June 2017 and concluded on 31 May 2018, with competitive matches played between July and May. It was the first season since 2007–08 in which Maribor did not win a single trophy during the season as the team lost the league title to Olimpija Ljubljana due to worse head-to-head record after finishing with the same number of points (80) in 36 rounds. Olimpija also eliminated Maribor in the quarter-finals of the Slovenian Cup. However, Maribor fared better in European competitions as the team reached the group stages of the UEFA Champions League for the third time in club's history.

The 2018–19 Slovenian Football Cup was the 28th edition of the football knockout competition in Slovenia. The winners of the cup earned a place in the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League first qualifying round. The tournament began on 14 August 2018 and ended on 30 May 2019 with the final.
