Ghislain Perrier (born 17 May 1987) is a French foil fencer representing Brazil in international competitions. He was bronze medallist at the 2015 Pan American Games.
Born in Fortaleza, Perrier was adopted by a French couple when he was one year old. He does not know his biological parents and did not learn Portuguese as a child. [1] He first played football and basketball, but had to give up because of his asthma. [1] He turned to fencing rather against his will, but the sport gradually grew on him. [1]
Perrier was formed at Escrime Angoulême under the coaching of Benoît Gonsseaume and Jean-Loup Boulanger. He was selected into the France national team for the 2006 Junior European Championships in Poznań, where they earned a bronze medal, and for the 2006 Junior World Championships, where they took a silver medal. Perrier then joined INSEP, a state-sponsored centre for high-performance athletes. He took part in the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade and won a bronze medal in the team event. [2] He finished second in the 2013 French national championships after being defeated by Erwann Le Péchoux. [3]
After the 2012–13 season Perrier was recruited by the Brazilian Fencing Federation to fence for the Brazil national team under a new rule allowing for the calling of athletes under other criteria than national rankings. [4] His recruitment, along with that of foreign-born athletes in other sports, was understood by the press as an attempt to support Olympic medals expectations in sports where Brazil has little tradition and raised comparisons to the "Plastic Brit" phenomenon. [5]
In the 2013–14 season Perrier won a bronze medal in the satellite tournaments of Amsterdam and London. He climbed his first World Cup podium with a bronze medal in Seoul, defeating along the way Olympic team champions Giorgio Avola and Valerio Aspromonte. [6] He reached the quarter-finals in the Pan American Championships, but was defeated by Gerek Meinhardt of the United States. [7] At the World Championships in Kazan Perrier lost in the second round to reigning European champion James-Andrew Davis of Great Britain. In the team event Brazil prevailed over the Czech Republic in the first round, then were crushed by Italy and finished 17th. Perrier ended the season No.26 in world rankings, a career best so far.
The 2014–15 season was a difficult one for Perrier, who never managed to pass the first round in a World Cup event and stopped at the quarter-finals at the 2015 Pan American Championships. He bounced back at the 2015 Pan American Games by reaching the semi-finals. He was defeated by the USA's Gerek Meinhardt and came away with a bronze medal. [8]
Gustavo França Borges is a Brazilian former competitive swimmer. He swam for Brazil in the Summer Olympic Games in: 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. Borges has won the second-most Olympic medals of any Brazilian, with four—one in 1992, two in 1996 and one in 2000—behind sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael. He also has the third-most Pan American Games gold medals of any Brazilian, with eight—behind swimmer Thiago Pereira and table tennis player Hugo Hoyama. Borges was Brazil's flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Rafael Carlos da Silva is a Brazilian heavyweight judoka. He has two Olympic bronze medals in addition to having 4 individual medals in World Judo Championships, in addition to being a six-time Pan American Judo champion.
Guilherme Toldo is a Brazilian fencer. At the 2016 Summer Olympics he competed in the Men's foil, being defeated in the quarter-finals, obtaining the best male result in Brazil in fencing of all time.
Caio Oliveira de Sena Bonfim is a Brazilian racewalker. In the 20 km walk, he was a bronze medalist at the 2017 and 2023 World Championships and finished 4th at the 2016 Olympic Games. His mother, Gianetti Bonfim, was also an international racewalker for Brazil.

Rafael Augusto Buzacarini is a heavyweight judoka from Brazil. He won two silver medals at the 2020 and 2022 Pan American Judo Championships and qualified for the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics.
Maicon de Andrade Siqueira is a taekwondo competitor from Brazil. He won bronze medals at the 2016 Summer Olympics, at the 2019 World Taekwondo Championships and at the 2019 Pan American Games, being the first Brazilian man to get an Olympic medal in that sport - and second overall after Natália Falavigna.
Ygor Coelho de Oliveira is a Brazilian badminton player. He won the Pan Am Junior Badminton Championships six times in the boys' singles and four times in the mixed doubles event with Lohaynny Vicente. Oliveira placed 27th in the world junior ranking and went on to compete at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. He won his first senior international title at the 2014 Puerto Rico International in the men's singles event. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and became the first Brazil's male Olympic badminton player. He clinched three gold medals at the 2018 South American Games in the men's singles, doubles, and team event. Coelho won a gold medal in the men's singles at the 2019 Lima Pan American Games.
Eduard Soghomonyan is an Armenian-born heavyweight Greco-Roman wrestler. He has competed for Brazil since 2015 and was naturalized as a Brazilian in 2016.
Susana Schnarndorf Ribeiro is a Brazilian Paralympic swimmer. In 2005, after a lengthy triathlon career, at the age of 37, Schnarndorf began to experience the first symptoms of a mysterious degenerative disease that was later diagnosed as multiple system atrophy (MSA). After a break from professional athletics, Schnarndorf returned to the sports world as a swimmer and is presently a member of the Brazilian Paralympic Swimming Team.
Edival Marques Quirino Pontes also known as Netinho is a Brazilian taekwondo athlete. He won the silver medal in the men's lightweight event at the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships held in Guadalajara, Mexico. He won a gold medal at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in the under 63 kg weight category.
Alison Brendom Alves dos Santos is a Brazilian athlete specialising in the 400 metres hurdles. He is a bronze medalist at the 2020 Olympic Games, the 2022 World Champion and the third fastest athlete in the history of the event, in addition to being a gold medalist in the 2019 Pan American Games.
