Gigo (Garbage in Garbage Out), commonly known as The GIGO EP, is the debut extended play by Nigerian rapper Eva Alordiah. It was released for free digital download on November 20, 2011, by 3UD. The EP features collaborations with Saucekid, Shank, Xvol, Basketmouth, Chigul, Ikechukwu, Sossick, Bigfoot, Gray Jon'z, and Tintin. It comprises nine tracks and was supported by the singles "I Done Did It", "Down Low", "Garbage Out (Your Fada)" and "High". [1] [2] [3]

Background and cover art

In an interview posted on the website The Nigerian Voice, Eva described the EP as a project that explores her love for the different types of music she's being infused with. By releasing the EP, she believes she's giving back to society in her own way. [4] In another interview with newspaper the Weekly Trust, Eva said she recorded the EP in order to create different sounds that are true to her image as an artist. She also said she was influenced by several musical genres, including rap, afrobeat, dancehall and R&B. [5] The EP's artwork and photography were designed by Ugo Daté and Obi Somto, respectively. [6]

Recording and releases

Eva started working on The GIGO EP as an independent artist. The Sossick-produced track "I Done Did it" was released as the lead single. [7] [8] In an interview with MTV Iggy's Halley Bondy in 2012, Eva said she was honored to have worked with the aforementioned producer and had fun recording the EP. [9]

Eva released the second single, "High", in 2012. The accompanying music video for the song, which was directed by Mex and uploaded to YouTube on May 24, 2012, premiered on MTV Base that same month. [10] [11] Following the song's release, many people misconstrue its meaning and thought it alluded to drug use and drug abuse. In the aforementioned interview with Bondy, Eva said the song is about overcoming the struggles and hardships of life. [9]

In April 2014, Eva released Eva Says, a mini video series that include live performances of songs from the EP. [12]

The 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Awards was the 7th edition of the ceremony. The event was held on September 2, 2012 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, New York City. The event was hosted by Funke Akindele and Ayo Makun. Winners included Wizkid, Davido, Don Jazzy and Tineh Tempah.

The 2011 Nigeria Entertainment Awards was the 6th edition of the ceremony to reward outstanding contribution to Nigerian entertainment industry. It was held at Sharp Theater, Symphony Space, New York City on September 5, 2011. It was hosted by Funke Akindele and Julius Agwu.

Ikechukwu Onunaku, known professionally as Ikechukwu and Killz is a Nigerian actor, rapper, and singer. He was a cast member in The Wedding Party and The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai. Onunaku was born in Manassas, Virginia to Nigerian parents but was raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He moved to the United States after completing high school at King's College, Lagos. He returned over a decade later to Nigeria shortly before the release of his first album Son of the Soil in 2006 which featured the smash hit My Name is Ikechukwu. Son of the Soil was followed by Life and Times of Killz Volume 1 which featured production by Don Jazzy and an appearance by DBanj and Wande Coal and frequent collaborator Naeto C.

Quddus King well known as GMK, is a Nigerian record producer, sound engineer, rapper, songwriter singer and songwriter. He is best known for producing Bridge's "Needy", and "Searching", Cruel Santino "Gangstar Fear", Lady Donli "Cash", BOJ's "Awolowo", "Bill Up", and "Assignment", and Burna Boy "Different". The Grammy-nominated Best World Music Album African Giant by Burna Boy in 2019, earned him a special recognition from The Recording Academy. He is signed to Warner Chappell Music, and Love Renaissance.
