Girishwar Misra (born 21 April 1951) is a social scientist, psychologist and author from India.

Early life

He obtained an M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from Gorakhpur University. He started his career as lecturer in psychology at Lecturer, Gorakhpur University in 1970. Thereafter he remained Reader at Allahabad University (1979-1983), Professor, Bhopal University (1983-1993), before joining as Professor, Delhi University in 1993, where he served for the rest of his career. In 1991-1992, Misra was a Fulbright Fellow in the United States at Swarthmore College and at the University of Michigan. [2] [3] :225

He was the vice chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya in Wardha, Maharashtra, India. [4]

Professor Misra is the chief editor of the fifth ICSSR Survey of Psychology published by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). [1] For 15 years, until the end of 2015, he was editor of Psychological Studies , [5] [6] a journal of the National Academy of Psychology, India. [7] As of 2016, he was continuing as the special issue editor of Psychological Studies. [8]

He has been one of the leaders of the emerging field of Indian psychology.

Psychological Studies is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal published by Springer Science+Business Media. It is the official journal of the Indian National Academy of Psychology. The editor-in-chief is Purnima Singh. The special issue editor is Girishwar Misra, who served as the editor-in-chief for 15 years through the end of 2015.

The National Academy of Psychology (NAOP) is the major national organization of psychologists in India. The decision to form the organization was made in 1988 by psychologists gathered at Bhopal University. L. B. Indian psychology refers to an emerging scholarly and scientific subfield of psychology. Psychologists working in this field are retrieving the psychological ideas embedded in indigenous Indian religious and spiritual traditions and philosophies, and expressing these ideas in psychological terms that permit further psychological research and application. 'Indian psychology' in this sense does not mean 'the psychology of the Indian people', or 'psychology as taught at Indian universities'. The Indian Psychology Movement refers to psychologists encouraging or carrying out the recently expanded activity in this field.

Ilina Sen was a human rights, trade union and feminist activist, as well as a teacher and author associated with the women's movement in India. She died on August 9, 2020, at the age of 69 after battling cancer for several years.

J K Bajaj is a founding trustee and director of the Center for Policy Studies, Chennai. He is also a member of the Indian Council of Social Science Research, of the National Council of Rural Institutes and of the advisory board, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. J K Bajaj holds a PhD degree in theoretical physics from Panjab University and has worked extensively in the scientific and technological tradition of India, Indian ideas and institutions and the religious demography of India.
