Giuseppe di Salvatore (born December 19, 1989, in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian sport shooter. [2] He is a bronze medalist in men's trap shooting at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Di Salvatore, a native of Surrey, British Columbia, started his sporting career at the age of seven, when his father Tony convinced him to shoot a gun. [3] He later became a member of the Vancouver Guns Club, and is currently coached and trained by Josh Lakatos, silver medalist in men's trap shooting at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. At the peak of his career, di Salvatore had produced numerous achievements, including his first ever title from the 2006 Canadian National Shooting Championships. In 2007, he became the youngest ever shooter to claim a bronze medal in men's trap shooting at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, accumulating a score of 134 clay pigeons. [4] [5] Following his success from these games, di Salvatore earned a spot on the Canadian shooting team for the Olympics. [6]
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, di Salvatore became one of the youngest shooters to compete in shotgun events (both trap and double trap). He scored a total of 112 clay pigeons in the preliminary rounds of the men's trap, by one point behind France's Stéphane Clamens from the final attempt, finishing only in twenty-fifth place. [7] Two days later, he placed nineteenth in his second event, the double trap, by four points behind New Zealand's Graeme Ede, with a total score of 109 targets. [8]
Olympic Trap is a shooting sport discipline contested at the Olympic Games and sanctioned by the International Shooting Sport Federation. Usually referred to simply as "trap", the discipline is also known in the United States as international trap, bunker trap, trench or international clay pigeon. It is considered more difficult than most other trap versions in that the distance to the targets and the speed with which they are thrown are both greater.
Manuel Moura Vieira da Silva is a Portuguese sport shooter. He won a bronze medal at the 1999 ISSF World Shotgun Championships in Tampere, Finland, and eventually captured a total of six medals for the men's trap shooting at the ISSF World Cup series. He also competed in the mixed trap shooting at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, and men's trap at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Júlio Antonio de Souza e Almeida is a Brazilian sport shooter. Almeida had won a total of four medals in pistol shooting at the Pan American Games. He also captured a silver and a bronze medal in centre-fire and standard pistol at the 2010 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Munich, Germany, with scores of 586 and 574, respectively.
Avianna Chao is a Chinese-born Canadian sport shooter. She is a gold medalist in the sport pistol at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lee Wung Yew, is a Singaporean sport shooter. He is a three-time Olympian, a six-time Asian Games competitor, and a thirteen-time Southeast Asian Games medalist (1985–2009). Because of his long-term success and full commitment to the sport, Lee was named Singapore's Sportsman of the Year in 1990 and in 1998. He was also conferred the Public Service Medal and Public Service Star for his contribution to sports. He is currently teaching at Assumption English School as a Physical Education teacher.
Ariel Mauricio Flores Gómez is a Mexican sport shooter. He won a bronze medal in men's skeet shooting at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and gold at the 2008 ISSF World Cup series in Kerrville, Texas, accumulating scores of 144 and 147 targets, respectively.
Roberto José Elías Orozco is a Mexican sport shooter. He won two bronze medals in both air and small-bore rifle at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, accumulating scores of 1,223.4 and 690.9 points, respectively. Elias also competed for his respective shooting events at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, but he neither reached the final round, nor claimed an Olympic medal.
Susanne Kiermayer is a retired German sport shooter. Kiermayer had won a total of nine medals for both trap and double trap shooting at the ISSF World Cup series. She also captured a silver medal in the same discipline at the 1998 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Barcelona, Spain, striking a total of 91 clay pigeons. Kiermayer is currently a vice-president of the German Shooting Federation.
Filipe Antônio Carneiro Fuzaro is a Brazilian sport shooter. He won a gold medal for the men's double trap at the 2010 Championship of the Americas Tournament in Rio de Janeiro, with a total score of 179 targets, earning him a spot on the Brazilian team for the Olympics.
Yelena Anatolyevna Tkach is a Russian sport shooter. Representing the former Soviet Union, Tkach won a silver medal in the women's double trap at the 1991 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Perth, Australia, with a total score of 121 clay pigeons. She also defeated Lithuania's Daina Gudzinevičiūtė by one point for the gold medal in the women's trap at the 2002 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Lahti, Finland, accumulating a score of 93 targets. Tkach is also a member of the shooting team for Dynamo Voronezh, and is coached and trained by her teammate and two-time Olympian Maxim Kosarev.
Fátima Gálvez Marín is a Spanish sport shooter. She was the World champion in the individual trap event at the 2015 World Shotgun Championships, and won the Olympic champion in the team event at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Lin Yi-chun is a Taiwanese sport shooter. She won two medals, gold and silver, in the women's double trap, at the 2001 and 2002 ISSF World Shooting Championships in Cairo, Egypt and Lahti, Finland, respectively. She also captured a bronze medal in the women's trap at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, accumulating a score of 80 clay pigeons and a bonus of 1 target from a shoot-off. She won gold at the 2023 ISSF World Shooting Championships in trap.
This article details the qualifying phase for shooting at the 2016 Summer Olympics. 366 quota places for the Games are entitled to the shooters coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated ISSF supervised Championships subjected to the ISSF rules from August 1, 2014, to March 31, 2016, while the remaining twenty-four are available to the eligible NOCs under the Tripartite Commission Invitation to get a total quota of 390. Host nation Brazil has been guaranteed nine quota places with one in each of the following events: 50 m rifle prone, 25 m rapid fire pistol, 10 m air pistol, 10 m air rifle (women), trap, and skeet.
