Vanuatu,officially the Republic of Vanuatu,is an island country in Melanesia located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago,which is of volcanic origin,is 1,750 km (1,090 mi) east of northern Australia,540 km (340 mi) northeast of New Caledonia,east of New Guinea,southeast of Solomon Islands,and west of Fiji.

Maxime Carlot Korman is a Vanuatuan politician,formerly serving as the speaker of the Parliament and formerly as acting president. He served as the prime minister of Vanuatu for nearly five years,first from 16 December 1991 to 21 December 1995 and again from 23 February 1996 to 30 September 1996. He was a member of the Union of Moderate Parties during his terms as prime minister,but now leads the Vanuatu Republican Party. He was the first Speaker of Parliament after independence,from July 1980 to November 1983,and also served in that capacity just before independence.
The Vanuatu Labour Party is a political party in Vanuatu. The party was established on 3 June 1987. It was founded on the initiative of various trade union organizations in order to contest the 1987 parliamentary election. The proposal to found the party was first presented by Ephraim Kalsakau,a leader of the Vanuatu Municipal Workers Union.
Joshua Tafura Kalsakau is a Vanuatuan politician. In 2005 Kalsakau,then the Minister for Ni-Vanuatu Business and an MP from Efate representing the National Community Association Party,joined the Vanuatu Labour Party. Kalsakau became the president of the VLP.
The Republic of Vanuatu and the People's Republic of China (PRC) established official diplomatic relations on March 26,1982. China established an embassy in Vanuatu in 1989,while Vanuatu established an honorary consulate in China in 1999;it officially became an embassy in 2005. The current Ambassador of China in Vanuatu is Liu Quan. The current Ambassador of Vanuatu in China is former Minister of Finance Willie Jimmy.

The Land and Justice Party is a traditionalist,pro-indigenous and pro-youth political party in Vanuatu. The party was launched on 11 November 2010 and is led by MP Ralph Regenvanu.
General elections were held in Vanuatu on 30 October 2012. The previous elections to the 52-member Parliament of Vanuatu were held in 2008. The largest parties in this election were the socialist Vanua'aku Party,which won 11 seats,and the social-democratic National United Party. Thirteen other parties as well as four independents won parliamentary seats. As a result,Edward Natapei of the Vanua'aku Party was able to become the Prime Minister. Since then,both Serge Vohor of the conservative Union of Moderate Parties and Sato Kilman of the People's Progressive Party have held that position,with Kilman being the incumbent Prime Minister of Vanuatu at the time of the 2012 election.
General elections were held in Vanuatu on 22 January 2016. The previous elections occurred in October 2012. The president of Vanuatu,Baldwin Lonsdale,dissolved the Parliament of Vanuatu in November 2015. This occurred after the conviction of 14 parliamentarians for bribery. The convicted MPs include former Prime Ministers Serge Vohor and Moana Carcasses Kalosil. The president called for a snap election to form a new government.
Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau is a Vanuatuan politician who served as Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu from 4 November 2022 until 4 September 2023. He is the head of the Union of Moderate Parties in Vanuatu
Gracia Shadrack served as the Speaker of the Parliament of Vanuatu from 20 April 2020 to 15 June 2021. He represents Malakula as a member of the Leaders Party of Vanuatu.
Snap general elections were held in Vanuatu on 13 October 2022 to elect all 52 seats in Parliament. President Nikenike Vurobaravu dissolved Parliament in August 2022 on advice of the Council of Ministers ahead of a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Bob Loughman.

Andrina Komala Lini Thomas is a politician,researcher,and activist in Vanuatu. Since 2019,she has been the founding secretary-general of the Leleon Vanua Democratic Party,a women's party seeking to close the significant gender gap in Vanuatuan politics. She ran for Parliament in 2020,then as a candidate for president in the 2022 Vanuatuan elections,but was not elected.
Nicolas Francis King is a Vanuatuan footballer who plays as a defender for Australian club Valentine FC in the National Premier Leagues Northern NSW.
