Glacier Peak Wilderness Wilderness area in the central Cascades of Washington state

Glacier Peak Wilderness is a 566,057-acre (229,075 ha), 35-mile-long (56 km), 20-mile-wide (32 km) wilderness area located within portions of Chelan, Snohomish, and Skagit counties in the North Cascades of Washington. The area lies within parts of Wenatchee National Forest and Mount Baker National Forest and is characterized by heavily forested stream courses, steep-sided valleys, and dramatic glacier-crowned peaks. The dominant geologic feature of the area is 10,541-foot (3,213 m) Glacier Peak. It is the most remote major volcanic peak in the Cascade Range and has more active glaciers than any other place in the lower forty-eight states. Glacier Peak is a volcanic cone of basalt, pumice, and ash which erupted during periods of heavy glaciation.

Goat Haunt area of Glacier National Park

Goat Haunt is a region of Glacier National Park in Montana, United States. Goat Haunt is located at the head of Waterton lake which is fed by the Waterton River. The headwaters for the Waterton River are located South of Goat Haunt Ranger Station at unnamed lakes located slightly higher than Nashukin Lake. The Goat Haunt area shares Waterton Lake with Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada. This area is important for reinforcing the international nature of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. It also provides hiking trails that connect the United States and Canada. The region provides wildlife habitats on both sides of the border. As a largely unspoiled natural area, visitors experience an area with few facilities or amenities, but with historical importance including Waterton Townsite and mountain passes used by American Indians.

Glacier View Wilderness

Glacier View Wilderness is a 3,073-acre (1,244 ha) wilderness adjacent to the west side of Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state. It was designated as wilderness in 1984. Glacier View Wilderness has views of the glaciated slopes of Mount Rainier which lies to the east. This includes viewing points from Mt. Belijica and Glacier View Point. Glacier View Point is the former site of a fire lookout built in 1934. The wilderness is administered by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest through the Cowlitz Valley Ranger district with headquarters located in Randle, Washington.

Goathaunt Bunkhouse United States historic place

The Goathaunt Bunkhouse was built as a service structure for the Great Northern Hotel Company's development of the Goathaunt site in Glacier National Park. The bunkhouse is the last surviving structure of this era at this location, near the southern end of Waterton Lake. Its design has been attributed to National Park Service landscape architect Thomas Chalmers Vint.

Goat Haunt Mountain is in the northeastern section of Glacier National Park, approximately 1.85 miles (2.98 km) north of Mount Cleveland. The stagnant Miche Wabun Glacier is located on the eastern slopes of the mountain. The total altitude gain from the trailhead to the mountain summit is more than 4,400 ft (1,300 m). Goat Haunt Lake is northwest of the peak.

Miche Wabun Glacier glacier in the United States

Miche Wabun Glacier is a glacier remnant (glacieret) in the U.S. state of Montana in the northeastern region of Glacier National Park. The glacieret is situated in a cirque to the east of Goat Haunt Mountain. Miche Wabun Glacier was measured in 2010 to have retreated to less than 25 acres (0.10 km2) in area, considered to be a minimal size to qualify as being considered an active glacier. Between 1966 and 2005, the glacier lost over 55 percent of its surface area.

Boundary Fire

The Boundary Fire is a wildfire in Glacier National Park in the U.S. state of Montana. First reported in the evening of August 23, 2018, the fire is located slightly more than a mile west of Waterton Lake in the Boundary Creek Valley near Campbell Mountain. The fire straddles the international border but did not cross into Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada. After it was detected on August 23, the fire quickly grew to more than 1,500 acres (610 ha) over the next two days but cooler and wetter weather conditions prevented significant growth after that. Firefighters were deployed to the Goat Haunt region to install sprinklers and be prepared for structure protection. By September 9 the fire was reported as being 2,896 acres (1,172 ha) and only 12 percent contained.
