2023 protests

More than 400 people attended protests outside of Goldies restaurants after the restaurant fired three staff members for showing pro-Palestinian sentiments following the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas. [4] [5] either by wearing Palestinian flag pins or for showing support on social media. [5] The restaurant group, CookNSolo, donated one day profits to a medical organization that provides gear to the IDF and also organized galas to show support for PACs for pro-Israel officials and lobbyists. [5] The Philly Palestine Coalition called for a boycott of CookNSolo restaurants. [6] [7] Governor Josh Shapiro condemned the protest, as did President Biden and other political officials, claiming the chant was antisemitic for having targeted a restaurant owned by an Israeli-Jewish owner.
