Richard Goldwin Yu Monteverde (sometimes spelled as Goldwyn) is a Filipino basketball coach currently serving as the head coach for the UP Fighting Maroons.

He formerly coached the NU Bullpups (National University's junior basketball team) and Adamson Baby Falcons [1] (Adamson University's junior basketball team).

Playing career

Monteverde played with Benjie Paras, and Ronnie Magsanoc in UP Fighting Maroons coached by Joe Lipa and win the title in 1986. [2]

Coaching career

High school ranks

Monteverde first coached in the high school level at Saint Stephen's High School in 1991. During this time, his assistant was Bonnie Tan, [3] future NCAA winning coach of Letran Knights. [4] Monteverde coached the "A" team of the school starting in 1993, and led them to five Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball League (MMTLBL) titles in the next decade. He then coached Chiang Kai-shek College in the MMTLBL and also led them into championships. [3]

Monteverde coached the Adamson Baby Falcons and created a winning culture, as the team qualified in every Juniors' Basketball Final Four appearances from 2014 to 2017. [1]

Monteverde then replaced Jeff Napa as NSNU Bullpups head coach. [5] He led the Bulldogs to three Finals appearances and two UAAP Juniors basketball championships from 2017 to 2020. He was elevated to the seniors' NU Bulldogs team in May 2020. [6] However, several players from the Bulldogs parted ways with the team, all with the blessing of Monteverde. [7] Weeks later, Monteverde resigned as Bulldogs coach without coaching a game. [8]

UP Fighting Maroons

Monteverde was hired by the UP Fighting Maroons in 2021, replacing Bo Perasol who had been promoted to the front office of the team. [9] Together with Carl Tamayo, his former player at NU Bullpups, [10] they led the team to their first championship since 1986, back when Monteverde himself played. [11] He led UP back to the Finals for Season 85, but they lost to the Ateneo Blue Eagles. [12]

Monteverde is the son of Regal Films founder Lily Monteverde and former San Beda player Remy Monteverde. [13] [14]

The University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 74 basketball tournaments are the basketball events of UAAP's 2011-12 season. Ateneo de Manila University was the season host. The season started with an Olympic-style opening ceremony on July 9, 2011 and followed by a doubleheader basketball games on July 10 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The basketball tournaments of UAAP Season 76 were held in school year 2013-14. Adamson University was both season host and basketball tournaments host. As season host, Adamson was the producer of the opening ceremony on June 29, 2013. As to being tournament host, Adamson was responsible for the scheduling of games, booking of game venues and distribution of game tickets to member schools. The other responsibility of Adamson as tournament host was the nomination of a basketball tournament commissioner to the UAAP Board for approval.

The UAAP Season 78 basketball tournaments are held in school year 2015-16. University of the Philippines Diliman is the season host. The basketball tournaments started with a doubleheader basketball games after the opening ceremonies on September 5, 2015, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and ended on December 2, 2015, at the Mall of Asia Arena, while the junior's basketball has currently been held since November. ABS-CBN's UHF channel ABS-CBN Sports and Action broadcast the men's tournament for the sixteenth consecutive year.

The UAAP Season 78 high school volleyball tournament started on August 22, 2015. The tournament venue is the Adamson University Gym in San Marcelino St., Ermita, Manila. Adamson is the tournament host. The number of participating schools in the boys' and girls' tournaments both increased to seven. Far Eastern University fielded boys' and girls' volleyball teams beginning season 77. Since there are now seven participating schools, the tournaments have a Final Four format. The UAAP Board decided to move the high school volleyball tournaments from 2nd semester to 1st semester due to the basketball juniors tournament being moved from the 1st semester to 2nd semester.

Jeff Napa is a Filipino professional basketball player and coach. He is the current head coach of the NU Bulldogs in the UAAP and currently serving as an assistant for the NorthPort Batang Pier in the PBA. He previously coached the Letran Knights in the NCAA.

The UAAP Season 79 basketball tournaments are held in school year 2016–17. University of Santo Tomas is the season host while Far Eastern University are the defending champions. ABS-CBN's UHF channel ABS-CBN Sports and Action broadcast the men's tournament for the seventeenth consecutive year.

The UAAP Season 80 basketball tournaments were the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) basketball tournaments for the 2017–18 school year. The tournaments are divided into men's, women's and juniors' divisions, for male and female college players and male high school players, respectively. The host school for the seniors' division was Far Eastern University, while Ateneo de Manila University was the sub-host for the juniors' division. This was the first tournament since 2019, the year before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Philippines.
