"Good Day" is a song recorded by South Korean boy band BoyNextDoor . Released under the title And,, it is the group's first Japanese-language maxi single and features Japanese re-recordings of select tracks from Who! (2023), Why.. (2023), and How? (2024). It was released on July 10, 2024, through Universal Music Japan. Kentz and Noizewave composed the song with lyrics written by the former. Characterized as a hip-hop song, "Good Day" discusses how one can enjoy time alone after a breakup.

Background

BoyNextDoor debuted in 2023 with the single album Who! , which was followed by the extended plays Why.. and How? as part of a "first love trilogy". [1] [2] [3] The band achieved steady commercial success in Japan with the three releases, culminating with How? debuting at number one at the Oricon Albums Chart. [4] On May 6, 2024, KOZ Entertainment announced that BoyNextDoor will debut in Japan with the release of their debut Japanese single And,. [5]

Composition

"Good Day" has a runtime of two minutes and 52 seconds. [6] The song was composed by Kentz and Noizewaves with the former providing lyrics. [6] It is a hip-hop song characterized by a "groovy beat" about "enjoying time alone after a breakup". [7] [8] The maxi single consists of three additional tracks in addition to "Good Day" – the Japanese re-recordings of "One and Only", "But Sometimes" and "Earth, Wind & Fire". [9] [10]

Release and promotion

"Good Day" was released on July 10, 2024, as the group's first Japanese-language maxi single with the title And,. [5] The Japanese re-recording of "Earth, Wind & Fire" was released as a promotional single on June 19, ahead of the single's release, with an alternate music video being released in conjunction with the single. [11] [12] Pre-orders for the physical single began on May 8. [13]

BoyNextDoor began promotional activities for "Good Day" on June 19, with a surprise appearance at a listening party held at the Club Quattro in Shibuya, Tokyo, where the single's title was announced and the Japanese version of "Earth, Wind & Fire" was performed. [14] [15] The band previously opened a photo exhibit on June 14 in collaboration with the retail chain Parco. [16] The single's release was accompanied by a showcase held in Japan. [17]

BoyNextDoor also promoted "Good Day" through appearances in several Japanese programs, including the TBS late-night music television program CDTV Live! Live! on July 9; the NTV news program DayDay on July 13 and the TBS music program Music Day the same day. [18]

Concept photos were released in the run-up to the single's release. [19] For the "syouyo" (逍遥, lit.'walking') concept, the images depict the members aimlessly wandering the streets of Japan as they share personal stories. [20] [21] In the "yakou" (逍遥, lit.'night train') concept photos, the members are depicted running around in a Japanese train station and entering a convenience store. [22] [23]
