Goodbye Enemy Airship the Landlord Is Dead is the second studio album by the Canadian post-rock band Do Make Say Think. It was released on March 13, 2000 in Europe and March 23, 2000 worldwide. [3] The record was published through the influential Montreal-based record label, Constellation Records.

Contents

"The Apartment Song" and "Goodbye Enemy Airship", were recorded in 1998 at CIUT-FM studios at the University of Toronto, the same place where the group's eponymous debut album was recorded. [3] The remaining songs were recorded in 1999 at a barn near Port Hope, Ontario owned by keyboardist Jason McKenzie's grandparents. The venue imbued the record with a lofty, nighttime ambiance complete with crickets chirping. [4]

Charles Spearin

Charles Spearin is a Canadian musician from Toronto, Ontario. He is a founding member of Do Make Say Think and Broken Social Scene, has toured extensively as a part of Feist (singer)'s band, and was Gord Downie's bass player for the Secret Path album and tour. On August 28, 2020, he and Swedish Violinist Josefin Runsteen released a classical album called Thank God the Plague is Over on Arts and Crafts. The album, titled just before the COVID-19 pandemic began, is a series of improvisations, Runsteen on Violin and Spearin on Nyckelharpa recorded chapel in Northern Italy. The Chapel, Chiesa di San Vigilio, near Castel Campo, had survived two waves of the bubonic plague that killed ninety percent of the local villagers. The walls of this chapel are covered in ancient graffiti pleading with God to rescue us from the horrors and suffering of the disease. The most prominent graphic, the red X, is the conclusion. It represents the cessation of suffering. Painted sometime after the Plague had moved on and life was gradually returning to normal, this X is the inspiration for the title of the album.
