He emerged as a prominent Nepalese director in 2002 with his highly praised feature film "Numafung," establishing himself as a leading figure in the industry. His subsequent works, including the 52 episode TV series "Dalan" about Dalits (the untouchables in Nepal) which he completed in 2006 and which aired from NTV 2008/2009. The TV serial was one of the most popular serial in the history of Nepal television, and was nominated for One world media trust, UK for outstanding work on social issue in developing countries. His third feature film "Goodbye Kathmandu," solidified his reputation as an auteur. Known for his focus on the Nepalese indigenous community, Nabin Subba is recognized as one of the pioneer of the independent film movement in Nepalese cinema. Additionally, he has dedicated considerable time to nurturing emerging talents. He is among the first Nepali filmmakers to participate in international film festivals as his debut film “Khangri'” (1996) won special mention at the Trento International Mountain Film Festival, Italy followed by prize of the jury at Propad International Film Festival, Austria and official selection at Telluride International Mountain Film Festival 1997. Now he returns with his first feature film in seven years, A Road to a Village starring Dayahang Rai, Pashupati Rai & Prasan Rai. The film is said to be about the change in father son relation brought by a newly built road in remote eastern Himalayas of Nepal.

Kabaddi is a 2014 Nepali romantic drama film written and directed by Ram Babu Gurung. It portrays the story of a love triangle among three central characters. The film was produced by Raunak Bikram Kandel, Nischal Basnet and Sunil Rauniyar and starred Nischal Basnet, Dayahang Rai, Rishma Gurung and Rajan Khatiwada. The film was released on April 25, 2014 with extremely positive review from critics and audience for its rawness, screenplay, performances and direction. It became a blockbuster at the box office and remains a cult classic film of Nepali cinema. The film is also considered as a landmark in film in modern Nepali cinema. The film had two sequels, Kabaddi Kabaddi was released in November 2015 which also became huge success critically and commercially. Its third part Kabaddi Kabaddi Kabaddi was released on 20 September 2019 and became the highest grossing film of the franchise and one of the highest grossing films ever in Nepal. Now, Its forth part Kabaddi 4: The Final Match has hit to the theatres on 27 May 2022 and has broken all records of Nepali Cinema till now.

Dharan F.C. is a football club based in Dharan, Nepal. The club which plays its home game in Dharan Stadium also annually organizes Budha Subba Gold Cup. Due to A division centered around 14 clubs in Kathmandu, many talented footballing youths are forced to leave for Kathmandu for footballing career. This has impacted all parts of Nepal including Dharan. Hence, it is one of the reasons that there are no decent stadiums except in Kathmandu.

Srijanshil Arajakta is a literary movement in Nepal described by the Kathmandu Post as "urg[ing] the inclusion of ethnic identities within mainstream Nepali literature." Novelist Rajan Mukarung and poets Upendra Subba and Hangyug Agyat started the movement in 1997.

Jaari is a 2023 Nepali film written and directed by Upendra Subba under the banner of Baasuri Films. It is produced by Ram Babu Gurung. Released on April 14, 2023, the film stars Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, Prem Subba, Bijay Baral, Roydeep Shrestha, and Rekha Limbu. The film is based on Limbu community and their Jaari tradition, which was historically one of the most significant part of their culture; the Jaari tradition was also relevant in many other communities of Nepal.
