Goparaju Yagneswara Venkata Ramana Murthy (born 5 April 1952), known popularly as Goparaju Ramana, is an Indian actor who works in Telugu cinema, theatre and television shows. [2] He made his feature film debut with Grahanam (2004), with his breakthrough film being Middle Class Melodies (2020). [3] Prior to working in films, he have acted in many theatre plays.

Early and personal life

Ramana was born on 5 April1952 to Hanumantha Rao and Bala Tripurasundaramma in Kolakaluru village of Tenali, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. [1]

He married Leela Annapurna Visalakshi. They have one son, Goparaju Vijay, who is also an actor.

Career

Ramana has started his career as actor, in theatre. His first appearance was in the play Manavuni Adugujadallo, written by Avula Sambasiva Rao, during his high school. In 1967, he joined the theater company Balanandam where he acted in plays like Sakkubai, Strike and Polish Bhayya. During the same period, he had also participated in several programs on All India Radio.

He had then started working in television shows, with notable ones being Padmavyuham, Muddha Mandaram and Mahalakshmi. In 2004, Ramana made his feature film debut in Grahanam , directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti. He got breakthrough for playing the role of Kondalrao in the film Middle Class Melodies (2020), which was premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Hemanth Kumar of the Firstpost in his review about the film, particularly praised Ramana's performance. [4] The same was echoed by other critics including those of The Hindu and The News Minute. [5] [6] He have later appeared in notable films like Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam (2022), Bedurulanka 2012 (2023) and Ambajipeta Marriage Band (2024).

<i>Mayabazar</i> 1957 film by K. V. Reddy

Mayabazar is a 1957 Indian epic Hindu mythological film directed by K. V. Reddy. It was produced by Nagi Reddi and Chakrapani under their banner, Vijaya Productions. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil, with a few differences in the cast. The story is an adaptation of the folk tale Sasirekha Parinayam, which is based on the characters of the epic Mahabharata. It revolves around the roles of Krishna and Ghatotkacha, as they try to reunite Arjuna's son Abhimanyu with his love, Balarama's daughter Sasirekha (Savitri). The Telugu version features Gummadi, Mukkamala, Ramana Reddy, and Relangi in supporting roles, with D. Balasubramaniam, R. Balasubramaniam, V. M. Ezhumalai, and K. A. Thangavelu playing those parts in the Tamil version.

<i>Missamma</i> 1955 film directed by L. V. Prasad

Missamma is a 1955 Indian Telugu-language romantic comedy film directed by L. V. Prasad. It was produced by Nagi Reddi and Chakrapani on Vijaya Productions banner. The film stars N. T. Rama Rao, Savitri, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Jamuna. The script was adapted by Chakrapani from Rabindranath Maitra's Bengali play Manmoyee Girls' School. It revolves around two unemployed people — M. T. Rao and Mary — who pose as a married couple to obtain employment in a high school founded by Gopalam, a zamindar. As Rao and Mary fall in love, Gopalam's nephew A. K. Raju learns that Mary is Gopalam's missing elder daughter Mahalakshmi; she is unaware of her true identity.

The film was released on Amazon Prime Video on 20 November 2020 to positive reviews from critics and audience.
