Gordon Harris is a Canadian urban planner and President and CEO of SFU Community Trust. In his role at the Trust he provides leadership in the development of UniverCity, an award-winning sustainable community adjacent to Simon Fraser University on Burnaby Mountain in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Under Harris' leadership, UniverCity has received a number of major awards [1] including: a 2012 City of Burnaby Environment Award, [2] a 2012 Planning Institute of British Columbia Award of Excellence, a 2011 Canadian Institute of Planners Award for Planning Excellence, [3] a 2011 Federation of Canadian Municipalities Sustainable Communities Award, [4] and a 2009 Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence. [5]

Harris, an independent planning consultant, was named to head SFU Community Trust in 2007. His expertise in urban–based economic analysis and land use planning and development earned him recognition by the Planning Institute of British Columbia, the Canadian Institute of Planners, the Economic Developers Association of Canada, [6] and the International Council of Shopping Centres. His clients have included many of the most successful land developers, investors, and retailers in North America as well as some of Canada’s larger municipalities and senior government departments and agencies. His international work has included projects in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Guatemala and China.

A longtime advocate of sustainable development, Harris was an early supporter of Smart Growth BC [7] and Canadian Business for Social Responsibility. [8]

A popular lecturer on sustainable development, planning and economic analysis, Mr. Harris received a BA in Urban Geography from the University of Alberta in 1980. In 2009, he was elected to the College of Fellows of the Canadian Institute of Planners in recognition of his leadership in all aspects of the planning profession. [9] He serves on the board of the BC Arts Council [10] and is a member [11] of the Planning, Design and Realty advisory committee of Canada’s National Capital Commission.

Arthur Charles Erickson was a Canadian architect and urban planner. He studied Engineering at the University of British Columbia and, in 1950, received his B.Arch. (Honours) from McGill University. He is known as Canada's most influential architect and was the only Canadian architect to win the American Institute of Architects AIA Gold Medal. When told of Erickson's award, Philip Johnson said, "Arthur Erickson is by far the greatest architect in Canada, and he may be the greatest on this continent."

Burnaby Mountain, elev. 370 m (1,214 ft), is a low, forested mountain in the city of Burnaby, British Columbia, overlooking the upper arms of Burrard Inlet. The institute has over 8,000 members from across Canadian, and works closely with the eleven Provincial and Territorial Institutes and Associations (PTIA). It was founded in 1919.

Mark Angelo, is a Canadian river conservationist, writer, speaker, teacher and paddler. He founded and is the chair of BC Rivers Day and World Rivers Day. In 2009, Angelo was appointed as the inaugural chair of the Rivers Institute at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Prior to that, he was the long-time head of the Fish, Wildlife and Recreation Program at BCIT. Angelo has received the Order of British Columbia and the Order of Canada in recognition of his river conservation efforts. In 2009, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Simon Fraser University for his river conservation work both locally and globally and in 2019, was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Trent University for his contributions to protecting global waterways. James McEwen is a Canadian biomedical engineer and the inventor of the microprocessor-controlled automatic tourniquet system, which is now standard for 15,000-20,000 procedures daily in operating rooms worldwide. Their widespread adoption and use has significantly improved surgical safety, quality and economy. McEwen is President of Western Clinical Engineering Ltd., a biomedical engineering research and development company and he is a director of Delfi Medical Innovations Inc., a company he founded to commercialize some results of that research and development. Geoffrey Massey was a Canadian architect and urban planner noted for his modernism-inspired architectural works. He was known for his partnership with architect Arthur Erickson that produced notable designs including the Simon Fraser University, and MacMillan Bloedel Building. As an urban planner Massey was known for his contributions toward pedestrian-friendly densification of Vancouver and development of Granville Island in the city.
