Government Canyon

Government Canyon, a valley that heads at an elevation of 2483 feet at 30°35′30″N101°16′25″W / 30.59167°N 101.27361°W / 30.59167; -101.27361 , and runs southwest to its mouth on Howard Draw in Crockett County, elevation 2014 feet.^[1]

A valley is a low area between hills or mountains typically with a river running through it. In geology, a valley or dale is a depression that is longer than it is wide. The terms U-shaped and V-shaped are descriptive terms of geography to characterize the form of valleys. Most valleys belong to one of these two main types or a mixture of them, at least with respect to the cross section of the slopes or hillsides.

Howard Draw is a valley that heads in the extreme south of Reagan County, Texas at an elevation of 2720 feet at 30°05′09″N101°22′27″W, and runs through Crockett County to its foot on the Pecos River in Val Verde County, elevation 1575 feet.

Crockett County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,719. The county seat is Ozona. The county was founded in 1875 and later organized in 1891. It is named in honor of Davy Crockett, the legendary frontiersman who died at the Battle of the Alamo.

Government Canyon was a place along the route where the San Antonio-El Paso Road left the Head of Devil's River to go northwest, 44 miles across Johnson Draw and Government Canyon to Howard Draw and Howard Spring.^[2]

Head of Devil's River, a place on the Devils River where it has its confluence with Pecos Canyon at an elevation of 1722 feet, below Beaver Lake, nineteen and a half miles above the second crossing of Devils River. Here the San Antonio-El Paso Road left the Devils River to go northwest, 44 miles across Johnson Draw, Government Canyon and Howard Draw to Howard Springs, then 30.44 miles on to Live Oak Creek and Fort Lancaster, 3 miles further near the Pecos River.

Johnson Draw, also formerly known as Johnsons Run and Johnson Creek, is a tributary of the Devils River in Val Verde County, Texas. It has its source in Crockett County, Texas at 30°56′03″N101°17′31″W, 17.0 miles north northwest of Ozona, Texas.

Temescal Creek is an approximately 29-mile-long (47 km) watercourse in Riverside County, in the U.S. state of California. Flowing primarily in a northwestern direction, it connects Lake Elsinore with the Santa Ana River. It drains the eastern slopes of the Santa Ana Mountains on its left and on its right the western slopes of the Temescal Mountains along its length. With a drainage basin of about 1,000 square miles (2,600 km²), it is the largest tributary of the Santa Ana River, hydrologically connecting the 720-square-mile (1,900 km²) San Jacinto River and Lake Elsinore watersheds to the rest of the Santa Ana watershed. Cristianitos Canyon Creek, a stream or arroyo, tributary to San Mateo Creek, in the Santa Ana Mountains. its source is within Orange County, California. Its source is at an altitude of 800 feet, at the head of Cristianitos Canyon, in the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains, in Orange County. It flows southwestward down Cristianitos Canyon, then turns south towards its confluence with San Mateo Creek, at an elevation of 75 feet, in San Diego County.

Hudson Canyon, is a vally and a tributary ephemeral stream of the Devils River in Val Verde County, Texas. It has its source at 29°57′03″N101°10′38″W at an elevation of 1780 feet. Its mouth has its confluence with Devil's River a short distance below Bakers Crossing at 1499 feet.

Seminole Canyon, a valley and a stream in Val Verde County, Texas. Its mouth lies at an elevation of 1119 feet (341). The head of the canyon is at 29°44′47″N101°16′07″W, west of the Southern Pacific Railroad line. The Seminole Canyon Creek has its source to the east of the rail line, on a mountainside 29°44′58″N101°14′27″W at an elevation of 1740 feet.

Laguña Creek also formerly also known as Tyende Creek, is a stream in the Navajo and Apache Counties of Arizona. Laguña Creek has its source at 36°41′15″N110°30′36″W, at the confluence of Long Canyon and Dowozhiebito Canyon at an elevation of 6325 feet / 1928 meters at the head of Tsegi Canyon. Its mouth is in the Chinle Valley at its confluence with Chinle Wash which together forms Chinle Creek, at an elevation of 4774 feet / 1455 meters. Chinle Creek is a tributary of San Juan River which is in turn a tributary of the Colorado River.

Tsegi Canyon is a canyon in Navajo County, Arizona. Tsegi, meaning in between the rocks, is a Navajo descriptive term for deep canyons with sheer walls. Laguña Creek has its headwaters at the head of Tsegi Canyon at 36°41′11″N110°30′33″W, where the creeks from Long Canyon and Dowozhiebito Canyon merge at an elevation of 6,325 feet (1,928 m). Its mouth is in the Animas Valley, in at an elevation of 4,662 feet / 1,421 meters. However topographic maps show its wash runs farther northward to the southern outskirts of Animas, New Mexico at 31°55′51″N108°49′36″W.
