Guanajuato is a municipality in central Mexico and the capital of the State of Guanajuato. It is part of the macroregion of the Bajío. It is located in a narrow valley, which makes its streets narrow and winding. Most are alleys that cars cannot pass through, and some are long sets of stairs up the mountainsides. Many of the city's thoroughfares are partially or fully underground. The historic center has numerous small plazas and colonial-era mansions, churches, and civil constructions built using pink or green sandstone. From 1991 to 1999 he served as Chancellor of the University of Guanajuato.

Moroleón is a city and municipal seat of the municipality of Moroleón in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. It is near the cities of Yuriria, Morelia, and Uriangato, forming the metropolitan area of Uriangato-Moroleón with Uriangato. The municipality has an area of 164.97 km2, with an urban population of 41,909 and municipal population of 46,751 as of 2005.

San Felipe, known colloquially as "San Felipe Torres Mochas", is a Mexican city and municipality located in the northwest region of the state of Guanajuato. The municipality has an area of 2,969.79 square kilometers, making it the biggest municipality in terms of size. It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Ocampo, to the south by the municipalities of León and Guanajuato, to the southeast by the municipality of Dolores Hidalgo and to the east by the municipality of San Diego de la Unión. It borders to the north with the state of San Luis Potosí and to the west with the state of Jalisco. The municipality had 106,952 inhabitants as of 2010.

TV4 is the state-owned public broadcaster serving the Mexican state of Guanajuato. It broadcasts on 30 total transmitters statewide and is operated by the Television Unit of Guanajuato (UTEG), which under its stated mission, provides educational programming, social and cultural television and healthy entertainment for children, youth and adults. It also airs programming from BBC, the Deutsche Welle, Canal Once and Canal 22.

Most Mexican states do not have an official flag. For these states, a de facto flag is used for civil and state purposes. State flags of Mexico have a 4:7 ratio and typically consist of a white background charged with the state's coat of arms.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Lists of Mexican state governors</span>

The governors of the states of Mexico are the first-level administrative divisions of Mexico. There are 31 states and one federal entity in Mexico. The lists include current governors, female governors, and governors of each state.

On 9 March 2019, a mass shooting occurred in La Playa Men's Club, a nightclub in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico. Fifteen people were killed, and five to seven people were injured. Fourteen victims were later identified as Jalisco New Generation Cartel members. Witnesses described the attackers as a group of armed men who arrived in three vans.

The Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel or CSRL is a Mexican criminal organization from the state of Guanajuato. Founded in 2014, it was initially headed by "The Sledgehammer". They mainly earn their income from oil theft. In June 2020, it was reported that state government raids and turf wars with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel resulted in the Santa Rosa de Lima losing much of their territories in Guanajuato, Querétaro and Hidalgo and all of their "soldiers." However, cartel members still maintain a small presence in certain municipalities of Guanajuato, such as Villagrán, though they are not active in organized crime. Ortiz was captured by state and federal authorities on 2 August 2020 along with 5 other people.

Same-sex marriage had been legal in Guanajuato since 20 December 2021. That day, the Secretary General of Government, Libia Dennise García Muñoz, issued an official directive addressed to officials of the state civil registry that, effective immediately, same-sex couples can marry in the state. Guanajuato became the 23rd Mexican state, and the 24th jurisdiction, to legalize same-sex marriage. However, as a new governor took office, the directive expired on 26 September 2024, possibly meaning that same-sex couples can only marry through an injunction, as it was before the decree was issued.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Florencio Antillón</span> Mexican general and politician

Francisco Florencio Antillón Moreno was a Mexican general and politician. He fought in the major Mexican wars of the 19th Century and served as governor of the state of Guanajuato between 1867 and 1876. During this period important civic developments took place in the city of Guanajuato.
