Evelyn Cecilia Salgado Pineda (Guerrero born 5 February 1982) is a Mexican politician affiliated with MORENA. [1] Since 15 October 2021,she is Governor of Guerrero. In May 2021,she became the candidate for the governorship of Guerrero for Morena,on 13 June she obtained a majority certificate from the Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute of Guerrero that accredits her as elected governor of the State. On September 26,2014,forty-three male students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers' College disappeared after being forcibly abducted in Iguala,Guerrero,Mexico,in what has been called one of Mexico’s most infamous human rights cases. They were allegedly taken into custody by local police officers from Iguala and Cocula in collusion with organised crime,with later evidence implicating the Mexican Army. Officials have concluded there is no indication the students are alive,but as of 2024,only three students remains have been identified and their deaths confirmed.

After the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation ruled that same-sex marriage bans are unconstitutional nationwide under the Constitution of Mexico on 12 June 2015,officials in Guerrero began announcing plans for a collective group wedding. Governor Rogelio Ortega Martínez submitted a same-sex marriage bill to Congress on 7 July 2015 and instructed civil registrars to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Legislators lamented they would have preferred to have the bill passed before marriages took place,but given the time line presented,it was unlikely. On 10 July 2015,twenty same-sex couples were married by Ortega Martínez in Acapulco.
